Well I still am a gambler but I did manage to stay away enough and managed to save a bit of cash for a small daily trip with my grandkids. Such fun and much needed. Just went to ft worth stockyard , road a train, water garden, putt putt and airplane watching at dfw airport. But loved it all. And to think just what I could have done and where we could of gone if I would just have Stopped gambling. It is a motivator to me. I want a week long trip with my grandkids somewhere special. One way or the other I'm gonna get it done...
I had grandparents like you, who loved me and wanted to spend time with me. I didn't realize until much later in life that not all grandparents are made that way. The kids are fortunate to have you. I hope you're able to reach your goals.
I also try to remember that sometimes in my childhood, a kind word from an acquaintance or even a stranger that was an adult made a huge difference in how I felt about myself then and even today. The neighbor that told me I had a wonderful speaking voice when I was 14 or the passerby that took the time to stop and say that I had pretty eyes.
Those things can stick with a child for their entire life. You have not only helped yourself to remember what is important in life, you have made a memory and lasting impression on some young ones. Good Job!
