Gambling Addiction & Recovery Support Group
Compulsive gambling is an urge or addiction to gamble despite harmful negative consequences or a desire to stop. A preferred term among many professionals is problem gambling, as few people described by the term experience true compulsions in the clinical sense of the word. Problem gambling often is defined by whether harm is experienced by the gambler or others rather...
I know exactly the feeling. I thought today I would break. I had the time..and just got paid.
It was SO tough..but went on the Safe Harbor site (another compulsive gambling site), posted a message and read one that helped keep me in check. Still tough though. Decided I would force myself to exercise and go to the gym. This is what I have been making myself do. It helps with feeling anxious and bored. I just do cardio like crazy!!
I purposefully made an appointment in the middle of the day. Honestly, I still could have done it after dinner. Decided to sit back with a glass of wine..and glad I did. I ended up getting phone calls for business that I needed to deal with. If I was "busy" at the casino, I could have lost money in more ways than one.
Try to keep busy. Exercise, make plans with friends, family...or just plan to go to the local coffee shop/bookstore and hang.
Whatever. Just keep busy! Apparently, the anxiety does decrease.
Lets keep on going!! WE CAN DO THIS!!!
another good reason :)
I'll try to stick around here-- helps me as always to read your feedback everyone, love the fast replies it pumps me inside and give me strength to fight it away right away.
thanks all we can all fight our temptations.
The further you get away from it, the more you realize how stressful gambling really is. Just remember, if you gamble you have to go back to zero. It has worked for me for 2125 days. Any day of that first 6 months could have been the day I went back. Set a goal of 6 months and see where you are at that point.
When you get to 50 days, it will feel like it is in the rear view mirror. Keep it up, you can do it.
The urges go away, I promise. I used to gamble 20 hours a day.
