Gambling Addiction & Recovery Support Group
Compulsive gambling is an urge or addiction to gamble despite harmful negative consequences or a desire to stop. A preferred term among many professionals is problem gambling, as few people described by the term experience true compulsions in the clinical sense of the word. Problem gambling often is defined by whether harm is experienced by the gambler or others rather...
Best thing is ur here now, acknowledged what happened and moving on. You made it happen for 17 months and u sure will surpass that mark because you've been there...
One day at a time.
Take care,
FD
Congratulations on your honesty. Keep posting.
It's been two years since I gambled the last but the difference is that I am on a recovery journey unlike all the previous absitinence years. Having been there many times I understand what you are going through.
There is no such thing as cure once addicted, there is only recovery the rest of our lives if we dont want to be in the same position again.
I hope your days gets better and hang in there, 1 day is as good as 100days. We can only live one day at a time.
Love,
Victoria
I am going to write this to you as a non-gambler. However, I am an alcoholic and addict in recovery. The question that we ask one of our members when they come back is...what happen?
As a matter of fact we had this same discussion last night at our book study. One of our members relapsed 9 months ago and he shared his story. What he shared and what I've heard over and over throughout the years is this: I couldn't see a way out. My thoughts were ones of torment and I kept thinking "if only" if only my wife would knock her shit off...if only the kids would be quiet. If only..."Gradually;I stopped," he said." I stopped going to meetings. staying spiritually fit and most importantly, I wasn't telling anyone what was really going on in my head."
Your story matters. It matters to everyone on here who is struggling. It matters to all the ones who are doing okay...today.
It matters to me. You got to come back. We can all rejoice for you and your family.
It matters mostly to you. If for no other reason but to show how to choose an alternative tool rather than gambling for a solution. I hope you stay.
thank you for your honesty and the insight,
how disheartening it must have been and
yet we must start over and begin again,
but is it really a beginning or just all part of the
addiction story, our story of us recovering??
Sometimes I don't really like the idea of
days or months etc.
I think we need to focus on NOT gambling
ever again,
and just keep on focusing on not having gambling in our life,
as we all know,
when we have abstained for awhile and we go back
it can be so very much worse than it ever was,
it is like we are rewarding ourselves for being so good for
however long.
Been there, done it.
I am happy your are back on track and and realized rather quickly that you didn't want to keep on with the addiction and that you wanted the most wonderful gamble free life that you had been living.
Happy to have you back and living once again.
Keep strong.
Stay the course.
