So I spent some time last night, reading up on addiction. The stats say that I (and maybe you) are predisposed and prob have poor coping skills for everyday stress. I know both are true for me. My father was a drug addict for a major part of his life and my mother seems to be addicted to being in relationships/marriages. I have two children that are really my heart and soul, but somehow, someway, they and my partner ( who is great by the way) seem to take and drain me, sometimes, to the point where I just feel the need for peace and quiet... And so I run to the casino for solace and piece of mind. Yeah, freaking right!!! I think my sick mind just works that way. Makes me think that being in a place full of people with loud noises is a form of peace and solitude, when it's actually the total opposite. My mind works that way to feed the addiction. I hate my job- go gamble, the kids are too noisy- go gamble, my wife is too clingy- go gamble, today sucked- go gamble, I just want to have me time- go gamble, I deserve a break- go gamble, I worked hard all week- go gamble..... That's the way addiction works.... Day 3
I can feel the wheels spinning in your head, you're a thinker. I understand what you're writing about when you say you went to a casino for peace & quiet, and how crazy that is. I use to gamble when life upset me - mad at my husband - go gamble, mad at myself - go gamble! CRAZY, I know. Even crazier is that I ended up mad at my poor husband all the time and hating myself. What a vicious cycle. Our minds need to heal, to except life on it's own terms, knowing things happen out of our control, but that we can chose not to make them worse by not gambling.
