I think a quote from George Carlin describes addiction and recovery pretty well: "Just because I got that monkey off my back, does not mean that the circus has left town."
I myself went through many slides before accumulating any abstinence. It appears also, that as folks get more distance from their addiction and life gets better, their inner gambler creeps out and grasps onto any weak places and can make an argument for why they should/could/want to gamble.
It seems our inner gambler is always with us, ready to reach out and entice us into the whole mess again.
Remembering my worst day gambling, (by writing it down, attending support groups and coming here to D/S) and counting my blessings, even keeping a gratitude diary, have been the tools I use to continually remind me that I don't want to go back to that insane, self-destructive and isolated place that gambling brought me to ever again.
You are doing great, you are where you can sanely assess where you've been and make conscience decisions about your actions. You have arrived at a place where you have the tools and a clear path, all you need to do is one step, one minute, one second at a time.
Take care of yourself in every way and know that all the kind and loving thoughts anyone has ever had for you, can still be with you and surround you as a protective armor as you walk on this arduous journey.
