There is that inner gambler that does not want anything except the dopamine that gambling gives us, it is like a 3 year old wanting sweets before dinner, persistent and spoiled, good job running out of the house to keep the gambler at bay. You have learned to be the kind and firm parent to yourself that you need. Sometimes that feeling of accomplishment, or celebratory mood is the trigger for the inner gambler to try to get back to the addiction and the dopamine. Remembering the pain that gambling brought me is part of what keeps me from acting on those niggling thoughts to gamble and urges.
