Foster Care Support Group
Foster care is a system by which a certified, stand-in parent(s) cares for minor children or young peoples who have been removed from their birth parents or other custodial adults by state authority. Responsibility for the young person is assumed by the relevant governmental authority and a placement with another family found.
Does anybody else foster teens that have attendance issues at school? What do you do? My husband and I both work, so driving her to school ourselves is usually out.
Some background: She has chronic medical issues, so almost all of her absences are excused. However, she also, like most teens, is adept at pushing the limits as far as possible. To make things worse, her medical issues are at least partially psychological, so it is hard to know when she is actually capable of going to school and when she isn't. It's not as if we can use a thermometer to gauge her wellness.
Her guardian ad litem has offered to step in. However, well we welcome that, we would prefer that it doesn't get to that step. Currently, I am trying out an incentive program, to see if that will help her fight through this.
Any thoughts on this?

Of course, we are also making sure to keep up the documentation with lots and lots of doctors notes.
