Foster Care Support Group
Foster care is a system by which a certified, stand-in parent(s) cares for minor children or young peoples who have been removed from their birth parents or other custodial adults by state authority. Responsibility for the young person is assumed by the relevant governmental authority and a placement with another family found.
After almost a year on a waiting list our FS finally got in to see a child psychologist. So lets just add that to the list so that there isn't confusion later on. He now sees a child psychologist, an occupational therapist, a physical therapist, a speech therapist and a behavioural therapist.
The behavioural therapist brought up FAS to CPS. But they won't test our FS until after he is done school and done with 4/5 professionals. So we just sort of keep that in the backs of our minds.
The psychologist has seen him twice and diagnosed him with moderate to severe PTSD. He came to us when he was FOUR! What the hell happened to give him PTSD? So I'm pissed off at his bio family because obviously it happened with them. Psychologist says because he was non verbal more or less until he came to us that he won't be able to vocalize exactly what happened because he didn't have the words when it occurred. She wants to see him once a week now instead of the initial twice a month sessions.
Then his BD gets out of jail and CPS allows him unsupervised visits off the hop. Because, you know, he was clean in jail. BD is living with his mom...so they count that as supervised. I don't. She's been meddling since FS came to live with us. So now, just as we can start treating his PTSD his dad comes back in the picture.
And to make it worse? BM, who dropped FS off at BDs when he was 2 and vanished....has made a reappearence and wants visitation rights with FS.
Some days it's too much for me, I can only imagine for him.

Thanks for your kind words guys. When he was placed with us none of this was known. They just thought he had a slight developmental delay. So it is a lot that we took on without prior knowledge about it. But we made the promise to care for him and love him until his family could take over. So we will just keep on keeping on, regardless of what life throws at us, and make sure we do all we can for him in the short time he has left with us.
