I am in foster care right now and my advice to you is that you treat the children you get like you would your own children.

I'm still angry. I'm angry with God for giving me shit parents. I'm angry with the judge for putting us back with them just because they attended therapy and a 12-step program. I'm angry with the law makers for making a law that encourages reuniting kids with parents. I'm angry with police people who DO NOT BELIEVE KIDS and put our needs first. I'm angry with courts that treat kids as repeat offenders when we runaway from our abusive homes and give us a label called incorrigible (thank god for Alexa for spelling) then place us in worse places like jail cells. But mostly I am relieved that one Case Worker listened to me; that one judge believed me; that my foster parents loved me in a way that was righteous and willing to take all my s h i t until I was ready to be loved again. We, us foster kids, love all of you strangers who are willing to give us a home even when we might not stay with you long. I owe so much to the Wilsons, the Gilcrests, Mr. Reilly, the Finch family. Thank you all of you for being there for me and my brothers. If I could give any advice it would be "Don't give up, even when we give you a reason to throw in the towel." I was so confused, hurt, wounded, angry, and love-confused when they came into my life. I was like a street mutt that had been kick around to long. And then you love me. Thank you.
