Please bear with my chaotic thoughts. I haven't been sleeping right, I'm exhausted, overwhelmed and quite crazed at the moment.
I was just reading through a lot of posts here and there. It got me curious about what fitting in really is? I started to wonder if those who seem to fit in, really do? Do they also have the same feelings of not fitting in? Is perhaps their entire world so detached and kind of fake, so that it is not really fitting in either, but all just a part of the fakeness and "game"?
It reminded me a bit of being a lot younger and my brother who is 7 years older was hitting about his mid-30's. He called me terribly upset and wondering how you knew when you were a success. With all the innocence of my youth at that time, I told him that you know you are a success when you stop asking yourself that question.
I know my kids say things like this to me all the time. Such simple things, but really, really true.
At any rate, I thought my random, crazed thoughts might be of some help or at least promote some kind positive thinking for all of us who struggle with feelings of not fitting in.
I think it is very much like my brother's question about success. Once you aren't so worried about it and can accept yourself, know that in reality, there is no real scale for success or fitting in....you really do realize that it is how you feel about yourself that makes the difference. I have a few dollars (quite literally), a little place, a single mom with her two teens and not much material to show for all these years...but I have me, all that I have experienced, all that I've made it through, my children...so much. I may not seem a success and not many would recognize my success, but I am so damned proud that I'm still standing and caring and loving!
I wish for all my friends here to find this kind of acceptance. It doesn't have to come from the "material" world, but from knowing that each and every one of you has such great worth. I see it in you all every time I read a post.

Ironically, I was struggling with my own insecurities this afternoon and I am feeling more inspired after reading your posting.

I am so glad you said that makes me feel better to know I am not the only one feel a little nuts sometimes
after that you find people worth knowing
And yea, I think I might even cling to that dysfunction cause I would have to do a C-change with all my friends.
So thank-you all for stimulating this post for me, this whole idea of being in the world, alone, yet so cathected to others and their opinions has been foremost in my mind lately.
