Food Addiction Support Group
An individual suffering from a food addiction disorder frequently experiences episodes of uncontrolled eating, or binging, during which they may feel frenzied or out of control. They will eat much more quickly than is normal, and continue to eat even past the point of being uncomfortably full. Binging in this way is generally followed by a period of intense guilt feelings...
I'm still working on figuring out the secret to stop the binging, but this much I know for SURE: we need to separate it from all of these squishy feelings. Decades, literally, of telling myself I was worthless because I had no willpower, or a failure, or whatever, has done not one damn bit of good.
If you notice that you're doing this every time you start making progress, you might be doing something I discovered in myself: sabotaging things just when they start to turn around, because deep down I may be afraid of succeeding. See, right now I can say "Oh, I'll be fine as soon as I lose 50 pounds." But there's a little voice inside me that whispers "what if you lose the fifty pounds and you're STILL (ugly, awkward, lonely, whatever demon is tormenting me that day.) And....that's when I self-medicate with food. Just a thought.
