Food Addiction Support Group
An individual suffering from a food addiction disorder frequently experiences episodes of uncontrolled eating, or binging, during which they may feel frenzied or out of control. They will eat much more quickly than is normal, and continue to eat even past the point of being uncomfortably full. Binging in this way is generally followed by a period of intense guilt feelings...
Many who responded said that bingeing is "a knee jerk response", often to stress or emotional need. An automatic instant response to pain is to binge. While eating, some said it seemed they were in a "trance", hardly aware of how much they were eating until the container(s) were empty. It seemed like they couldn't stop and THINK before they binged.
I like the acronym H.A.L.T. Halt means STOP a moment to think. Am I really "H" ungry, or am I "A"ngry, or "L"onely or "T"ired. ?
I'm trying to get in the habit of asking myself those questions.
By far the most common solution to bingeing on junk is NOT HAVING ACCESS to that junk! Get your trigger foods out of the house! Stock your fridge and pantry with good, healthy food.
