Food Addiction Support Group
An individual suffering from a food addiction disorder frequently experiences episodes of uncontrolled eating, or binging, during which they may feel frenzied or out of control. They will eat much more quickly than is normal, and continue to eat even past the point of being uncomfortably full. Binging in this way is generally followed by a period of intense guilt feelings...

hey all-fair warning: this will be long. i have a lot pn my mind. i'm going to start out by telling you what happened saturday night. i was having really bad cravings for cheesecake saturday. i had been trying to ignore it for hours. finally, at 1 am, i couldn't stand it. i HAD to have chieesecake. so i snuck into the kitchen and got out the cheesecake. by this point, my little shadow maria was climbing all over me and meowing at me. it was almost like she was trying to tell me to not binge. but i didn't care. i picked her up, and begged her to leave me alone so i could eat. i quickly scarfed a piece of apple crumb cheesecake and a piece of brownie fudge cheesecake. i took my plate and fork back to throw them out, and i wanted more. so i hugged maria and cried alone in the kitchen.
then i heard kayla ask for cheesecake and i panicked. i quietly left the kitchen and hid in my room. i heard kayla scream "oh my gosh! who murdered the cheesecake?"
embarrassed, i admitted to it when dad asked.
you'd think after that, i would have learned, but nooo. sunday was even worse.kayla insisted on going to the mall. i wasn't doing well sunday because i had had a lot of spasms. i was really tired, and needed some of my dad's glucose (they're like the world's biggest smartie's. there's 4 grams of sugar in each one.) but dad only had one left. so i went to fye and bought 2 boxes of cookie dough bites. i did a little more shopping, and then went to subway. once i started eating, i couldn't stop. i scarfed the sandwich, and made a beeline for blondie's where i spent TEN DOLLARS on cookies and brownies. i didn't have time to eat it all, so i brought it home. i got sick from the cheesecake binge the night before, and came out the bathroom to find delilah eating all my sweets. i was furious.
still angry with her, i turned on the tv to find a documentary on food addiction. tlc followed 3 food addicts as they tried to beat their addictions. this 18 year old kid murphy DIED because he was 500 pounds and they couldn't move him to a rehab hospital fast enough. he had water on his lungs and a bad bout of pnemonia. i started to cry. i realized i could die if i keep doing this to myself. this destructive cycle of bingeing, guilt, making myself sick, and doing well for a while just to eventually give in later has to stop. i don't want to live this way anymore. each binge is worse than the last. each time i fall back into the pit, it's harder to get out. i want to be well. i want to be free.
sunday night while i was watching it, bryan came in and asked what it was about. i told him, as he said "food has no addictive properties. there's no such thing as food addiction." i wanted to cry. miraculously, i didn't. i don't know if i'll ever be able to tell bryan what's going on with me.-fallon

My 6mo twin DD's are EBF and just started rice cereal on the first. Everything has been going fine except this morning one of them had a diaper rash (lots of redness around her anus). I read this as one of the signs of an allergy. BUT I did just buy a different brand diaper yesterday (which they have used randomly before w/no issues). Do you think its the cereal or the diaper? Im ready to start...
I realize I am a tinsy bit late with a reply, but I read your post and I felt so bad for you. I just needed to let you know you are not alone at all. I am in the same place you are. I know what it feels like to have NO support. I mean, if you told someone you had anorexia, they would be SO worried and immediately try to help. But very few people actually understand food addiction. Just because most foods may not be physiologically addictive, does NOT mean it isn't EXTREMELY emotionally addictive. And as far as your friend who says that food has NO addictive properties....what about sugar? Caffeine? Yes it does. Anyway, I am always here if you need an emergency intervention or something. I check my email WAY more than I should so I can get back to you really fast :-)
who is Bryan?? I'm thinking no matter how important he is that he isn't as smart, or knowledgeable as TLC.
This sucks everyone. Anyone reading this knows that food is addictive. not to everyone, no. my wife used to smoke. i would have a cigarette with her every night, two of them. this went on for 7 years, i never got addicted. i do not have a genetic disposition or addictive trait to nicotine. however; my wife can eat a bowl of lays and end it there. me????? forget it. i am addicted to high glycemic carbs, or sugars.
IT SUCKS.
your right, anorexics get all the love in the world, if youeat too much, your expected to just stop.
guess what???? mcdonalds, burger king, crispy cream exist because their food has no nutritional value but people like us consume it. lots of it.
It will be a life long fight. but fighting this thing is something we need to choose.
Jasgall, you know what? your ok and your going to be ok. choose to acknowledge this things sucks but your going to resist it, if you eat 34 pieces of cheese cake one night, but then the next night only eat 33, at that rate in 32 days you'll be down to just one. Shoot for that, simply love yourself, decide to live free of this thing and you'll be ok.
sending love, energy prayers and all i have to all of you.
Yossarian.
But sugar is a addictive - that's why it is in everything. I've been in rehab three times for food addiction. I've been over weight. Underweight. The only things that have saved me are:
1. CUTTING OUT ALL refined carbs, especially sugar AND ANYTHING containing sugar, unless it is under the sixth ingredient.
2. YOGA. Absolutely hated the idea of this at first. Was always bored and distracted. Then realized it was just about to getting to know and stretching body and feeling ti come alive. And it has really saved me. Plus you can listen to any music you want. Rolling stones. Beyonce...anything. Calming, centering and transforms the body more for me than vigorous exercise and running which was more punishment.
Just wanted to send these two suggestions out to you with love. x
Well, it turns out your brother is dead wrong. Food especially refined sugars have a very addictive compnent. Also, food actually cause a chemical reaction which calms you after you eat certain foods. This is why many people use it to cope with emotions. Tell him to pick up a book or ask a doctor.
