Well, if all went well this should be my first weekend in England. Notice how I wrote "if"?
I was suppose to leave Omaha Monday morning. It didn't happen. A nasty snowstorm not only hit this area but it had a straight line right to Chicago, which should have been my first stop.
Anyway, after spending seven hours at the airport, I got my flights rebooked and made it back to downtown Omaha for three more nights.
The last five years I have started and ended the year in England. This year I'll end and start the year in a plane somewhere over the Atlantic Ocean.
I leave tomorrow (New Years Eve) and arrive New Years morning.
I've been stuck in a hotel for five days now and I'm ready to go.
I started repacking my bag today and began thinking that I paid for insurance on this flight. Every year I sign up for insurance and every year I wonder why I do that. Well this year, it paid for itself and reimbursed me 90% of my cost.
It will pay for my meals, the last three nights in a hotel, and the car rental. All in all, I guesstimate that my final cost because of this delay will be under $100.
The weather has been amazing the last couple of weeks. Down south they experience tornadoes. The plains saw a heavy snowstorm. The midwest has seen snow, ice, rain, and now massive flooding on the Mississippi. Mother Nature is making the end of this year, a year to remember.
The one thing I have learned the last couple of years is the value of having insurance. It may seem expensive at the time but just one incident and it more then pays for itself...

I invited Bill to have dinner with me last Sunday. He wasn't willing to drive 7 hours to mid Michigan and teased me with his beautiful ribs!!! So, of course I ate alone and had cedar salmon

check out that smoke ring. It tasted really good. I smothered it with Maulls BBQ sauce which is Local to St. Louis and one of the best I ever had.....

It is symbolic, I think, that your transition to a new country and a new life experience occurs simultaneously as the new year transitions. Without a doubt, inevitably, the new year arrives, as you will in your new life.
Got my residence card and tonight will be going to dinner with my wife to say thank you to some folks who helped make it all possible...
Whereabouts in England are you living?
it makes sense for some lessons to take place in snow but these two that were rearranged were FIRST lessons with these two new students to me....they said they have driven before but the question I usually have is how much have they driven and can they actually control car with little help? That is the question in my mind not that I asked them those questions....sometimes I get I have driven before and they by no means have any skills at all and it is pretty obvious they had no skill in that first experience of driving if they even did try.....
anyway moving lessons around is safer than having my car jeopardized by new driver in slick fresh snow....I have a $500 deductible if they damage my car!
Winters in England are so mild compared to the Nebraska tundra.
