Look to see if your area has a "center for independent living." There was one in my area and they were helping me get housing before I moved.

Also, I know it may be a long wait but put in the state's applications for housing. You never know what your situation will be like in the future even if you get stable housing before they call. And keep your contact info with them up to date. The housing complexes that your app goes to may ask you to send in a letter that they send out periodically to see if you still need housing. Always resubmit them. You will probably get them in the mail.

I am disabled as well. I am pursuing self-employment as a copywriter. if you have a propensity for writing, it might be worth a look. Also, web developers/designers and many other tech fields let you work from home or you can be self-employed. You can also train from home and may be able to get a position in less than a year, depending on how quickly you learn and how long the program is that you choose. You may be able to work remotely right away but I don't know enough about how it works at the entry level to do that. You 'd have to do some research. Check out www.codecademy.com.

Do you have any special skills/ experience/education that you can turn into a business and work for yourself remotely? Or a particular interest that can be pursued to ultimately work online/remote?

Try working as a house-sitter. People going on long trips sometimes worry enough about the security of their property that they will pay someone to stay in the house in their absence. You must be a tidy person and very trustworthy, but other than that, there are no requirements. It helps if you like animals, but don't have any of your own. Often, the people will have pets that they want you to take care of as well, so you get a good deal more money for the extra work. It is a lot easier than taking care of someone else's children.

A few people I know have been able to make money posting online auctions. I have tried several times, but had only a little success. Having a good line on the right things to sell makes all the difference. If you can make handicrafts, a specialty website would be a better choice. Even painted rocks sometimes sell for amazing amounts of money.

Babysitting and dogwalking are always possibilities, if you have the right temperament.

soulsearcher83- I will definitely have to put that on my list. I have not really checked into state housing (I did not know that was a thing), so I am not really sure where to start. What app are you referring to? Also, it is nice to know another writer. I started in editing, but there is just not enough money in it to make it sustainable for me. I have done some copywriting before; however, I had a difficult time finding a good platform to find jobs. Do you work on a specific platform or just apply for freelance work from different places? I have some skills - coding, cookie decorating, writing and editing, etc. - but I am not sure that I can really make a business out of that (rather, when I tried before it crashed and burned lol). I think it is mostly difficult to get word of mouth when I am so isolated.


johnnycake - I have heard great things about house sitting. Unfortunately, though, it is a little difficult as I have pets of my own that require attention. I used to petsit as a live-in, but that was a long time ago. What is an online auction? Is it like an online garage sale? I have a lot of old junk to get rid of, but I am terrible at pricing and such. I did try to sell my crochet work once, but that did not go well lol. Do you know anyone who walks dogs?

I am sorry to hear about your situation. When I was reading your post, I thought of selling online. Just what I am not sure. But say you are good at some craft or something, maybe you can sell your goods online (e.g. knitting socks, painting, jewelry making). If you live in a nicer climates, how about selling some home baked goods at the farmer's market in your town? What about dog sitting?
These are just some of ideas. It is though out there, especially when we have medical issues.
