Years ago, I was more often broke then on good ground during this time of the year. Often I would seek help from county programs, The Salvation Army, churches, and various stores that had adopt a family programs. Thank God, every Christmas turned out well for my family.
When I got out of debt, a little over four years ago, I started to "pay it forward." I began donating money to The Salvation Army for Christmas gifts.
Last year, with my health issues, I wasn't able to give as much as I had in years past but they were still grateful for what they received. I remembered how thankful they were for what I was able to give... so this year I made up for it. The secretary's eyes just lit up when I handed her a check.
I left the building feeling great! Not for the amount I gave but just doing my part to help others in need. I'll never know where the money went or what gifts were purchased but I still remember many years ago, when my then three year old daughter opened her gifts... she was so excited and so happy... and it's that feeling I will cherish this holiday season.
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to everyone...

Just thought I would join this group now that I am a widower. My wife passed away May 28th. She was "The Wind Beneath My Wings". When I met her, I was a drunken, dope smoking, fighting, hell raising biker. She told me if I could get rid of the inner storm within me, that I could be a blessing to people. God placed her in my path to stop me. I have been drug and alcohol free now for 53...

For westerners, this is the other side of the world, where everything is exotic and unfamiliar. Piracy is still a problem on the Java Sea, and English is not widely spoken. The Java Sea is about 1,600 km long, 400 km wide, and loiters loosely between the islands of Borneo to the north, Java to the south, Sumatra to the west, and Sulawesi to the east. The equator is a few degrees north, so...
I pray that you and yours also have a wonderful Christmas. Ours will be a wonderful time because all of our family will be in town to celebrate. That means making memories with my 8 year old grandson. May God continue to bless you and everyone on the DS site.

I also read this article yesterday about the coldest region in the World in North East Russia http://www.msn.com/en-gb/travel/news/21-amazing-photos-that-show-what-life-is-like-in-the-coldest-inhabited-town-on-earth/ar-BBnsceI?li=AAaeUIW&ocid=mailsignoutmd
There's no mollycoddling of kids there. People utilise as opposed to analyse and you did your fair share. The people from that area aren't Ethnic Russians, btw. They're Turkic; descendants of Genghis Khan's hordes. They have the Warrior Spirit in them. (sure beats Bear Grylls and Chuck Norris)
We can look back and say how dependent we were on others until we actually do stuff ourselves.
