Pay Raise

I recently got a pay raise because the UK minimum wage increased. Less then a month later I am on the verge of getting an even bigger raise.

I've been constantly looking for another job and today I got hired to do IT work for Sky Communications. It is the ultimate communication chief in England. Broadband, phone, and TV...

It is still not entirely complete. I have had two interviews and passed both - next Tuesday I have my final assessment and then start work. If that assessment goes well I will start work with them within two weeks and my pay will increase by 25%.

I do hope to be able to still work at the bakery at least one day a week, just to keep that door open in case this job doesn't work out...

Methods to continue to save money are bearing its rewards, which is necessary so I can have no problems with renewing my Visa in two and a half years...

good deal....now to be over 25% above minimum wage is a good thing....I assume you make minimum at the bakery as you said the wages went up due to changes in Min wage rates.....

After a couple of cancellations the final assessment took place this morning. By far the most different and unique job interview I have ever had.... it last just under three hours.

Will find out if I got the job or not in about a week. The assessment was done by three different people... really an original experience...

As I thought... I didn't get the job. it was not a good interview for me. Part of the reason was because the job was so entirely different from anything I have ever done. But just going through the whole interview process has taught me a lot.

Anyway, I found out on Wednesday, afterwards I went on-line and looked at other jobs and saw one right up my alley. Being a maintenance man - actually a maintenance manager at a restaurant.

I filled in the on-line application and my wife called someone she knows (long story) - anyway that person got back with my wife and told her to tell me to get it in before the end of Wednesday night.

I did this and the HR person got back in touch and I had an interview Thursday morning. That went well and now Monday morning I meet with the restaurant manager.

Everyone is saying I already got the job but I'm not going to count on it just yet. If it does happen, it does prove that sometimes a job is a matter of who you know and not necessary what you know.

I am so hoping this happens. I enjoy my present job but it is with an agency and any job with an agency is never totally secure...

good luck and the process of interviewing for different types of jobs is always interesting....when I interviewed to Guam Public Schools I went thru a few different people all in one day at a hotel as they were from Guam and no business location in town...I was happy to be hired as I had lost the job I had abused for five years...taking mental health days after binders drinking and just when I did not feel up to working...I took more than my share of unpaid days off too....and I got 10 or twelve paid days off for sick leave and personal leave....I hated teaching that much in classrooms....now I live to teach driving....total 180 degree change in attitude....just love one on one instruction where students want to learn what I am teaching....
