Every Friday, I look at my finances, my bills, and incoming money.
The last couple of years, I've quit spending dollar bills and putting them in savings. Though with my recent disability I had $54 in one dollar bills that I never put in savings and ended up using them to help me live.
Besides that money in my apartment, the only other money that is laying around is loose change.
Pennies, I don't have an accurate count of... I do this one by weight. It roughly takes 144 pennies to equal a pound... right now I have at least $187 in pennies.
Nickels and dimes. I haven't spent this type of change in five years. This I do have an accurate figure for - $102.65
Quarters. Only use to do laundry. $19.25
Dollar Coins. For awhile I started collecting these. Now I use them for tips to the pizza delivery guy or anyone else who delivers things to my door. Right now I have $57
So total in loose change in the flat is $365.90
I started saving this money as kind of a last gasp warning. I figured if I started spending this money, I knew I was broke and it was time to change some things with my budget...

I invited Bill to have dinner with me last Sunday. He wasn't willing to drive 7 hours to mid Michigan and teased me with his beautiful ribs!!! So, of course I ate alone and had cedar salmon

check out that smoke ring. It tasted really good. I smothered it with Maulls BBQ sauce which is Local to St. Louis and one of the best I ever had.....
I also have 68 pounds and 67p of British currency... which right now is over $107 in American currency
I have a 1 gal glass milk jar - my goal is to fill it with quarters - I'm guessing that will net me $700-$800 dollars. I currently have $222.75 in quarters. I have a 1 gal moonshine jug for pennies - $13.03, and another moonshine jug for nickels & dimes - $46.40.
On payday, I "buy" the excess coins from petty cash at work. And I empty my coin purse several times a week, as it fills with coins.
I like knowing the cash is there, ready to be liquidated if the need arises, but that thought of cashing out 891 quarters for an impulse purchase tends to keep the coins in the jars, where they belong. This is a fun "forced savings" plan I can live with.
Mine too, started as my first savings account, with rounding up my checks and rounding down my deposits.
I do try and make the collection part of my decor. The quarters are in a glass flower vase. The type you get when you have flowers delivered. When it is full it holds right around $50... like I said I use quarters to do my laundry, so when it gets low I cash in a $10 bill for a roll of quarters.
The nickels and dimes are in a pretty glass candy jar.
The dollar coins are in a small glass beer mug.
And the pennies, which I started saving in 1994, yes 20 years, are in a culligan type container that you see in offices holding drinking water. It is roughly half way full.
When I started saving pennies I was so broke and my goal was to fill it and then use that money for a vacation. A vacation built from pennies. LOL
