I have been trying to get my divorce from my husband for going on 8 years now. I left him after only two years marriage because of his abusive ways. Now, I want to marry my college sweetheart, but I am still legally married to this man. I have paid out over $3000 to lawyers over the years to try filing no fault divorce papers, but he refuses to sign, saying that I am asking for too much. I am not asking for anything except my divorce. He just doesn't want to sign because he is using this as a way of taking control out of my hands on this matter. I talked to a lawyer about getting the divorce without his signature, but I can't afford it. The papers I have paid for already were between $350 and $300 each!! The next option would cost a minimum of $1000.

What can I do?

did you talk to him? I would....if he will not sign then you need judge to decree...so that is more expensive....but worth it in long run....you will get out....right now this is not doing any good for you or him...

if you have to go to judge tell him that you plan to seek alimony and more from him if you have to go to judge and see if he budges...

I have tried talking to him. We have a son together, and he even refuses to do for our child. He refuses to be reasonable on every level. Right now, I am on a fixed income. My fiance is on a fixed income. I have four children and a grandchild, and the only money that takes care of them is mine and my fiance's. I get help with my daughter only because she lives with my mother. I don't have any more money to put out on this. I told him that if I have to go the judge, I will be seeking FULL custody of my son and CHILD SUPPORT. He accused me of threatening him and started yelling and cursing at me. You can't reason with a someone like him.

I am so sorry you are going through this. I don't know to much about divorce, I went throug a divorce many years ago, but it was no contest with him, because he was in jail.
As for the money situation, I would start saving in penny jars, doing yard sales, collecting cans(if your state recycles cans), anything and everything to get that extra money to get your divorce. Where there's a will there is a way.
I know this is a dumb suggestion, but if you could borrow from a family member/relative or see if your church does donation, if you go to church.
I hope this helps you. It has to be miserable want to move on and him holding you back.
Also if he is abusive go to a women's center, and see if they may be able to help you or assist you. go to the Physical &emotional abuse forum and there is people on there who can give you the number to your states women's center to help with this also, there is some great people on here as well as on the P&E abuse forum. Great support.

If you have a son with him, then he is responsible for his health care... seek out HHS, they will get things moving, if a child is involved use every available government resource that is available to you
