Job offer fell through...ugh!

Hello, I have been out of a job since June of 2010 and also from April - October 2009. I was laid off both times and there isn't enough work or money to have me come back. So I have been working just part-time at minimum wage. This job ends in April and my unemployment runs out in just a couple of weeks now. I'm really scared.

Yesterday I was offered another part-time job and that gave me more hope. I was told to call this afternoon and I definitely planned on it. Now they just called me and said they would no longer be needing to hire anyone. Ugh! Now I am so bummed out and my day had finally been going well.

When will this turn around? I keep trying and just can't find any work. So frustrating! :(

Hello heartbroken, and welcome to the board! There, there, I know exactly how you feel. I've been in your position before when this economy first tanked. I keep wondering when my area will turn around too economically! :)

Since you still have your current part-time job and unemployment just wanted to let you know that if your areas has agencies and/or Social Services like 211/The United Way, The Salvation Army or St. Vincent some of the them offer help w/ rent, phone & utilities (Out here, if you need financial assistance, the 1st week of the month is the best time to call, since they have more funds then)

Also, if your area has any, temp agencies can also help too Some don't pay alot but some out here offer a lot day labor jobs which helps a bit when many here are in a bind

Keep active...volunteer to keep the door open. Alot of times, people start out as volunteers and then they get hired. Beats sitting around doing nothing. If you volunteer at a soupitchen or a food pantry, that will take care of your means. How about self employment such as taking kids to/from school, being a mother's helper, girl friday for a busy person or an elderly person. if you have a car, you can run errands, deliver stuff or be a support to your local school, community center or church. Looking for a job IS YOUR JOB RIGHT NOW!!! Pray on it and feed your soul. Start planning now. Don't wait until the last check comes. Can you get a room mate?
