An article from Yahoo Finance. I know it is hard to get one going but the amount of stress that leaves when one in place is worth it.
Last year when I had my heart surgery I was prepared with a good emergency fund in place... I've just about replaced it all.
It was so nice to not worry about going back to work to soon because I was broke. It gave me time to heal and to gain some strength back.
A friend of mine is having surgery at the end of June. She still has $1,700 on her deductible to meet. The surgeon and the hospital want her to pay that $1,700 before the surgery. She has the money and will have the surgery on time.
I was very fortunate to not be sick before I had a fund in place. The idea of having a bill after surgery is bad enough but to have one before the surgery would be to much for me...

I invited Bill to have dinner with me last Sunday. He wasn't willing to drive 7 hours to mid Michigan and teased me with his beautiful ribs!!! So, of course I ate alone and had cedar salmonĀ

check out that smoke ring. It tasted really good. I smothered it with Maulls BBQ sauce which is Local to St. Louis and one of the best I ever had.....

Whatever you are saving money for, you will enjoy the end result in July so much more. Why? Because you worked for it - you saved for it.
You can say the same thing with using a CC... but I think with paying after the fact it is easy to build up a resentment towards it.
Anyway, good luck with your savings...
I want to move one accounts money to CU, it has like $48 + in it...if I move $45 and build from there without subtracting until event end of July I should have some saved money available to pay for those events...
Just save... if you have an event for July... great, keep saving for it and whatever you have in savings... don't touch 10% of it... if you need $100 for an event then have at least $110 in savings
A house can never give the comfort and peace of mind that a nice emergency fund can bring...
I did some checking tonight and I am $8 above where I was last year at this time and I still have one paycheck left for the month.
July of 2014 was the last time I saved money for that year... the outflow started with medical tests and surgeries. By the end of the year I had spent a small fortune on medical issues and just living without a paycheck. Yes, I had a disability insurance check but that was just a little over half of what my normal monthly check was.
It was so nice to have that money there and it was even nicer to have more in case it was needed... and that doesn't include my yearly trip to England. Well, all that money has been replaced and back in an emergency fund account.
SAVE MONEY --- it is the best gift you can give yourself...
Quit worrying and dreaming about things... those are things 20 year olds think about
I may be wrong and please forgive if I am speaking out of turn.
Last year after doctors, surgeries, and everything associated with it, I could have handled one more "minor" emergency, then I would have been back to not being prepared.
I didn't like that feeling and the possible uncertainty it brought me. History has a way of repeating itself if things don't change.
I've been broke twice, I've been homeless... I'm getting to old to be acting like an out of control teenager with money. Last year really showed me the value of a good emergency fund.
If I quit my job today, I have enough money to live for 18 months... if I add in unemployment I can survive for two years. That's without any emergencies... so I'll keep saving and planning.
I will share my one ultimate dream... that is to take the Orient Express across Europe. I saw a special about it on PBS years ago and I've always dreamed about it. Two weeks on a train, going through many European countries... the Alps... all the scenery... that is my ultimate goal.
Will it ever happen? I won't say yes and I won't say no... I do know that if I don't have savings it will never happen. No way, would I ever consider doing it with a loan or a CC...
I do not have any financial plans as mybestself has seen....I did put $85 into a savings at the CU today....so now hopes are that I do not touch that until friend comes into town in July and we go to baseball games and dinners together that is what I am saving because she has already paid for baseball ticket and parking for me...I think the ticket to game is about $25 and parking is at like $30....so I have enough to pay her money that I currently owe her...she does not want it now she said wait till she gets here then pay up...so I am making sure I can pay up....do not want money issues with her....that would not be cool...in fact the more money I can spend when she is her with her I will have more fun time with her....she is coming from Houston TX....she works for NASA as an Engineer....she is pretty and wants me to date her when she is here....woot woot...
anyway the CU savings account pays $ but just 0.15% interest....which is more than checking...at ZERO
I always knew you'd make a great Poirot! :)
I am so sorry about my payday loans; I would certainly have more than enough if I did not have that debt like a ball and chain. Oh well...I will get there.
You may be having a good time but then in the back of your mind will be thoughts of how much money you have left... if it ain't enough will there be enough with a CC.... you can't buy friendship and you can't buy love.
Don't give money that kind of power. You'll never win and in the end it is very ugly to look at and chases more friends/lovers away then it attracts...
When I first started my life as a bachelor, I slept on the floor for two weeks... no way I could afford a new mattress but after those two weeks I could afford a used one. I know it was gross but that was all I could afford. It cost me $50 and lasted for three years... by the time I was done with it, it literally was falling to pieces... I'd pick it up and it would just rip and fall apart.
That next purchase was at the furniture store... a brand new full size mattress. That first night I felt like a king.
I still couldn't justify getting a bed frame with the mattress so I built one from old lumber from a custodial closet from work... that is still my bed frame...
The simple things bring great joy and nothing beats a brand new comfy mattress... pure heaven
