Can Timing Be Worse

For over 32 years I have worked with or for a small museum in New Jersey (did a film in high school, a documentary in college and in 2009 became their computer system administrator). For the past 2 years, because they are broke, I have done "donation" work for them and recently it paid off. They rec'd a nice gift and the entire network is to be replaced - new server, new workstations = lotsa money. WOW

Same week - daughter needs over $1,200 of dental work. Almost all of it goes to that.

hey you signed on for parenthood....that is the problem with that idea...but I like your job....and past history...I have MA in media comm...but have never approached any levels you have YET!

Hmmm - what can I say? This type of thing happens to me all the time.

Its hard to get ahead right now - just savor the feeling you had when your museum had all that money to give you!

Sometimes we just have to enjoy the moment - quick! Before its gone again.

Hey you are doing a great job ad all this will soon pass...
Since you are in the media, you might want to take on a couple of commercial jobs that can be done locally to get ahead..When politician might need some advertisements, etc...

Can you imagine if you didn't get that bonus when you daughter needed the dental work? This happens all the time. This year we wanted to get a new mattress with our tax return. But we got a letter from our health insurance saying my husband didn't have enough hours to qualify for the insurance so we had to go to "self pay" So we paid, no mattress. Maybe next year? All I am saying is life has a weird way of throwing curve balls. I hope you will be able to get another bonus and use it for something else.~ Hugs~

Not to sound insensitive but didn't you say your children were 29 and 30 And you didn't like their financial requests? If so, then aren't they old enough to handle their own medical expenses?

I'm not saying you can't help your children I just think $1200 is a lot to lose for adult children that you mentioned you no longer want to continue to fulfill their financial requests

I really hope things look up for you soon so you can enjoy what you worked so hard to earn :)

sweet pea nailed it on the head..... I'd suggest to your daughter she figure it out and maybe offer to pay like $150 or something (because thats what we parents do... LOL) but certainly would NOT give up all of it.
