I've been wanting to publish my musical CD's as singles or as an album on the site "CD Baby." I haven't looked to deeply into it because I wanted to have an ample amount of funds available for this project.
These funds come from proceeds from my website and nowhere else. I will not use my money from employment for this project... I can probably swing it now but I just want the money for the site and my artistic endeavors to always have a safe reserve so it never causes me stress in my daily life.
So, with that in mind... this week I entered a national sports writing competition. I wrote an article about Iowa State University football about seven years ago for a possible place in a "Chicken Soup For The Soul" book... that never happened but I still get nice reviews and notes about it. OK... most of these praises come from Iowa State fans.... LOL
Anyway, I spent $16 from my website funds and entered for a possible grand prize of $1,000. This would certainly get my CD project underway...

I invited Bill to have dinner with me last Sunday. He wasn't willing to drive 7 hours to mid Michigan and teased me with his beautiful ribs!!! So, of course I ate alone and had cedar salmonĀ

check out that smoke ring. It tasted really good. I smothered it with Maulls BBQ sauce which is Local to St. Louis and one of the best I ever had.....

The older one is entitled "Purple Power" and was created for cancer survivors and their families. It has sold close to a 1,000 CDs... it uses my poems and puts them to the sounds of Kevin MacLeod.
The second CD is my pride and joy. It is entitled "12.' 12 Knights of the Roundtable... 12 days of Christmas... 12 Months... 12 Signs of the Zodiac... 12 Titans... 12 Olympians... 12 Tribes of Israel... 12 Apostles... and for those in recovery there are the 12 Steps and the 12 Promises. And now music for those Steps and Promises.
That CD takes 12 poems I have written about one of the steps or promises and turned them into song. The musician is famous in Europe. He is a jazz/blues musician from Manchester named Alan Haven. He has written scores for a couple of the older Bond movies and his music is used for odd programs on European TV and has also appeared in "Deadliest Catch."
The voice on the CD is from an angelic voice, who wanted to remain anonymous, she uses the name "HP Chylde." (higher Power's Child) - an amazing voice.
The person who changed the words of poems into lyrics for songs also remains anonymous - I really wish I could share more about this person, I do mention a little bit about them on the insert for the CD. This person is retired from the music industry after spending a lifetime in it.
Then finally the cover was designed in Mexico. It really turned into a global event. The words originally written in America, the songs composed in England, the design created in Mexico. Everyone involved with the project (except for Alan Haven) a recovering alcoholic.
More then my books, the CD '12' is my pride and joy. A dream I always hoped would become a reality. To use my poems to create songs and those songs to create a CD. And to have it done by professionals, who between them have over 70 years in the music industry was a true gift from God.
I also have one poem that was turned into a song by a group from New Hampshire as well...
I am entering a few competitions too. A fortnight ago I applied for the Patrick Kavanagh Poetry Award 2014. (told you about that before) Now I entered a competition whose deadline is in a couple of hours time based in Yeovil. (Somerset)
Hope springs eternal.
