Just six weeks into the new year and I've been able to save 85% of my paychecks. Actually, it wasn't that difficult. When I go to England in December I pay bills into February so I have no expenses when I get back.

So right now, I'm at where I was at the end of January last year. So, I'm still behind with where I want to be but things are coming back together and God Willing by April all the money I spent on medical bills last year will be back in an emergency account.

I did celebrate a little and spent some money on more of a "want" then a "need." I've had a separate laptop for my website for five years or so... I do my work on the site off-line, then upload when I'm ready. Well, the laptop I've been using is a Windows XP. It is no longer supported with the program I use.

So, I downloaded the program to my desktop which is a Windows 7 and everything worked well. In fact, I was surprised with how fast everything was. So this week I went on e-bay and found a used Windows 7 laptop which I purchased just for using with the website.

My website doesn't provide me with much money but it has turned into a relaxing hobby for me. So while the desktop worked, I "wanted" what I always have had and that is a separate computer for it.

Anyway, the cost was $140. It is the same type of one that I use at my place of employment, so I know what it can do.

Even though I have the money, it still was extremely difficult for me to buy something I wanted.

Congratulations messenger, once again you show that you think ahead. You are self-reliant, responsible and independent. My husband and I think just like you, we had to also upgrade our desktop because it was also an XP, so we found a refurbished one at Wal-Mart online. It was wonderful, fast and came with a warranty. Why toss money that is hard earned on something that we can find less expensive. It's about value for our bucks. That way we avoid not having money so that we don't have to rely on anyone. Great choice!

Whilst I appreciate your commitment to save, no one has to be 'Type A' on the issue. As long as one can afford it without incurring unsecured debt, why not?

I'm the other end of the spectrum. My spending and underearning mean that I can't get ALL of my needs met. What I really need, above all else, is a FRICKIN' JOB. They say one will come round for me, but that has always been the case for the past EIGHT YEARS.

Apologies for ranting, but I am only beginning to come out of my shell.

When looking for a job a person can't be choosy. If you get a job washing cars - take it. Delivering newspapers - take it. Stocking shelves in a grocery store - take it.

It is easier to get a job when a person has a job. And when you have a job, never miss a day and be a great employee. Down the road that place will give you a great recommendation.

I agree always looking for jobs is a lot of work....I did it for ten years...always looking taking when given a job also and getting laid off often....keep looking for jobs always...one better might come along....

now I no longer look....I am retired on SSDI....and do the driving school.....that is all I can handle....
