I am very low right now...about to get bunch of money and knowing that I have it spent in 100 different directions than the direction that I must spend it on which is to pay off creditors and put away a savings account. My AA sponsor ripped me because of a pipe dream I wanted to try to fulfill to meet a gal I know online and telephone for over 5yrs from DA who lives in SD for a birthday celebration our birthdays are one day apart....
I knew what I was saying was I wanted to spend frivolously on travel to meet this girl....I was not happy with the reality of the reply which was spot on that I have huge debts and am about to get a big sum of money and want to spend it instead of paying off my bills and that I am looking like I am heading towards another bankruptcy.....he was right...but then he said that he feels he needs to pull back from my financial situation now because he has given me advice and I seem to be wanting to take control and do it my way....he is not wrong but I really need his advice to keep me from doing it my way....
anyway this email came after I wrote that I was wanting to go to SD on Nov. 1st for birthday celebrations....which I think more than anything was a pipe dream and mostly just blowing smoke about my desire to meet that friend..... :( It left me feeling lower than a whale turd.....
You know, in today's world the term "sponsor" as it refers to 12 Step Programs has grown into a dysfunctional relationship. I know so many people who won't do anything without the approval of their sponsor.
Sponsor's were suppose to share their experiences and guide a person with suggestions as to having a spiritual life.
If a spiritual life is there then a sponsor has done his (or her) job. It is not up to your sponsor Bill to hold your hand and make sure you spend the money where it will actually serve a purpose.
Four years ago, I was on the verge of dating but I really couldn't do that "with everything I had" because of my debts. I didn't want to bring a lot of baggage into a new relationship.
Now, four years later, I'm still with the same wonderful lady and I'm debt free. I didn't bring any of my past into our relationship[ and I'm so thankful I did do it this way.
For med, it came to a point that I had to put on my big boy pants and be a man. I needed to take responsibility for my actions (spending money recklessly) and rely on my Higher Power to guide me. Without a Higher Power it was 100% self-will run riot.
Don't blame your sponsor for pulling back. I would too. He needs to save himself first. He told you what he would do the rest is up to you...
As far as bankruptcy.... in my opinion, bankruptcy was not made for people like you Bill... sorry to be blunt but there is no way to sugar coat it. Bankruptcy was meant for people who lost their jobs, who had major medical expenses, that fell into a financial nightmare that was beyond their control.
Just spending money wildly does not justify bankruptcy...
As far as the trip to SD... go for it... no one is stopping you. Do it NEXT YEAR. Take a whole year to get your financial house in order... save for it... after a year it will be a reward for a job well done...
Doing it this year is not even a pipe dream... it just a very impulsive childish thing to even consider...
But having that as a goal is a wonderful thing to shoot for!!!!
I hope that you even crack THAT record!!!!
Good luck!!!!
