My 17 year old daughter has fibrous dysplasia in her optic canal. She gets yearly cat scans. So far the dysplasya has remained stable. She also gets migranes and we believe they are related to her monthly cycle. The neurologist said there should be no issues with the fibrous dysplasia and birth control but it seems as if its a bad idea. Has anyone had any experience in this area?
Thanks so much for any and all information.

I was diagnosised with fd/right tibia when I was 21 (I'm now 29). I've also suffered from chronic persistent migraines since I was 15. The pain in my leg, my head, and a monthly cycle was enough to drive any young lady crazy. I went on birth control to help ease everything a little after I had my surgery (which I don't know if ya'll plan on). But I've never had any problems on it. I did have to try out a few different ones. The trick is to find just the right birth control.

I was diagnosed when I was 21 and I am now 29. I also suffered bad headaches considering my frontal cranial bone was affected. I went on birth control for a few years after being diagnosed but I felt that it made my hormones more irregular than they needed to be. I just feel more normal when I'm not taking it but it did not seem to have any affect on the fibrous dysplasia itself.

My daughter has FD in her skull and thinks her low dose birth control pills are easing her headaches.

I have found that birth control helped for awhile. just make sure to avoid depo. it can cause severe bone loss. in most people this isn't a big deal, but since I had fd it pushed me into osteoporosis too. I finally just had the surgery instead which helped with my pain levels. since I had fd in my pelvic bones childbirth was impossible anyway. after the surgery my pain has been less.

I have FD in my skull and my ribs. I got migranes for a few years around 13 when I was first diagnosed but have luckily only had headaches and bone pain since. I went on birth control at 19 after always having irregular periods and once I found the right dose I've felt that it's helped me tremendously. I do notice more bone pain especially in my ribs around my cycle. I'm also just sensitive to hormonal shifts in general however which may be associated with some endocrine abnormalities that I have. Anyways, I feel it helps to keep my hormones more stable and bone pain is definitely associated with hormone levels from my experience so it may be worth trying.

My 6mo twin DD's are EBF and just started rice cereal on the first. Everything has been going fine except this morning one of them had a diaper rash (lots of redness around her anus). I read this as one of the signs of an allergy. BUT I did just buy a different brand diaper yesterday (which they have used randomly before w/no issues). Do you think its the cereal or the diaper? Im ready to start...
