there are now three different posts (at least) covering this news that came out today. Back when the WPI published the paper that said a retrovirus had been isolated in a large percentage of CFS patients, I thought they were finally onto something that could bethe first step on a road to a true treatment. But the NIH dragged their heels and pooh poohed it. WEll, today they published results of study that agrees.

This bears watching closely.

What does all of this mean for us fibromites? I know the two syndromes intertwine...but should we hold our breath? I was planning on giving blood tomorrow at work for a blood drive, but what if Fibro is related to XMRV as well? I would hate to further contaminate blood supplies. Any thoughts??

we need to follow this closely! untill now i had doubts fibro and cfs was virus related, now i hope it is so maybe there may be a cure!

nicause - I haven't dared give blood since my dx because of a: no one knows (yet) where this comes from and I already have a hard enough with guilt and b: I take too many medications and it doesn's seem right donating blood full of rxs. What's everybody else do when it comes to this?

do we have a test here in the US to detect this virus? i'm aware canada dose

I feel guilty either way because there is a shortage, but I don't think I will donate just to be safe.

Finally! Hopefully clinical trials will start soon and help us already infected feel better and prevent others from catching this monster!

I actually did read somewhere a few months ago that CFS and FM patients were asked to refrain from donating blood until more is known.

There IS a blood test developed. it costs about $600 and insurance does not cover it yet. The institute who first published developed the test.
