Fibromyalgia Support Group
You're not alone in your pain. Fibromyalgia is a condition that can be difficult to diagnose and manage. If you're trying to cope with pain throughout your body, sleep problems, general fatigue, or other common fibromyalgia symptoms, you're in the right place. The community is here for you to talk about therapies and share your challenges.
Unfortunately It's because of the bad press on it in the past that it's not real and all in the head.
I think a name change topic has been mentioned here before and it's one I definitely agree with.
Rheumatoid arthritis is also another disease where most sufferers wish the name can be changed because people hear "arthritis" And that's it they minimize it and don't understand. RA effects the whole system, many symptoms. Not just joints. Debilitating.
I hope you feel better soon. I'm sorry you are feeling so horrible.
How aobut: Chronic Mulfi-Focal Dysautonomia. No cute acronym but it sure sounds more impressive.
I'd try again but my forearms are today's FM focus, and ow, I gotta relax. Hugs, and I know, it's awful how they dismiss it and *us*....
PANDORA'S DISEASE
Because like pandora's box in myth it holds all these evils.... and a tiny little bit of hope.
Sorry, I'm in an odd mood, no offense or depressing-ness meant there.
Multi-Focal Neuotransmitter Disaster ?
Feel better. Hugs! :)
Myofasciatis, BTW is really painful. Have you tried Myofascial pain release?
Myofascial pain syndrome (MPS), also known as chronic myofascial pain (CMP), is a syndrome characterized by chronic pain caused by multiple trigger points and fascial constrictions. Characteristic features of a myofascial trigger point include: focal point tenderness, reproduction of pain upon trigger point palpation, hardening of the muscle upon trigger point palpation, pseudo-weakness of the involved muscle, referred pain, and limited range of motion following approximately 5 seconds of sustained trigger point pressure.[1]
Symptoms:
Myofascial pain can occur in distinct, isolated areas of the body, and because any muscle or fascia may be affected, this may cause a variety of localized symptoms. More generally speaking, the muscular pain is steady, aching, and deep. Depending on the case and location the intensity can range from mild discomfort to excruciating and "lightning-like".[2] Knots may be visible or felt beneath the skin. The pain does not resolve on its own, even after typical first-aid self-care such as ice, heat, and rest.[3]
MPS and fibromyalgia:
MPS and fibromyalgia share some common symptoms, such as hyperirritability, but the two conditions are distinct. However, a patient may suffer from MPS and fibromyalgia at the same time.[4] In fibromyalgia, chronic pain and hyperirritability are pervasive. By contrast, while MPS pain may affect many parts of the body, it is still limited to trigger points and hot spots of referred pain.[5]

Unfortunately, there have been many illnesses that were once thought of as dismissive; due to inept individuals whom don't want to take the time to treat complex illnesses. These are some illnesses that were once dismissed by doctors: multiple sclerosis, tuberculosis, hypertension, stomach ulcers, diabetes, epilepsy, chron's disease etc.
Now it's fibromyalgia. As we continue to challenge these inept individuals, and demand respect, the closer we will get to changing the stereotype.
If I were ever to run across an ignorant, indifferent person; I would educate them about the medical fields history of dismissing diseases. The Neanderthal doctor's who still dismiss fibro, due so out of there own selfishness. They feel that fibromyalgia patients are too needy and that their visits cannot be handled in 5 to 10 minutes. They don't want to have patience with their patients. They want to treat a well known, thoroughly researched, clear cut, text book case illness. Sitting down with a patient to develop a fibro management plan is too much work for them!!
Then you have misinformed individuals, whom go by hearsay and regurgitate what they have heard some other misinformed individual say. .They are followers without any mind of their own. If I were to run into anyone like that I would say: CAN YOU PROVE THAT IT DOES NOT EXIST???
