Fibromyalgia Support Group
You're not alone in your pain. Fibromyalgia is a condition that can be difficult to diagnose and manage. If you're trying to cope with pain throughout your body, sleep problems, general fatigue, or other common fibromyalgia symptoms, you're in the right place. The community is here for you to talk about therapies and share your challenges.
Please look into getting help from a pain clinic where they can monitor your health while taking strong pain killers.
I've been on the same dose for over five years without increasing, and it's the one tool in my fibro toolbox that provides me with the confidence to go out and live my life without fear of the pain that extra activities will bring.
I work full-time in a mentally demanding job and have had no issues with "mind-numbing" or any of the other myths that surround the use of narcotics for chronic pain.
My PCP prescribes it but my fibro specialist is aware and approves.
What else have you tried - what lifestyle changes have you used and what meds have you tried in the past?
I say all this to bring to your awareness the problems that we fibro patients can have in getting good treatment simply because we have no other choice be to see another human being and we are all flawed. Doctors, too. I know, believe me.
The question PeaceN2You asked about lifestyle changes is a great one. I struggle with this all the time, especially with eating because I don't feel up to cooking most of the time. So I eat a lot of quick stuff and I now find that I have diabetes on top of everything else I have. No ability to get exercise the way I always had before, bad eating and BAM! Diabetes.
So yes, lifestyle changes are essential or you are going to end up like me, I fear. This is a cautionary story of my life and how things have gone badly for me. I hope things go better for you. And everyone else out there who will read it. Be careful and do the things you can to care for your body.
I have been on three different kinds, I started with ms contin, I had it for twelve years , Then I went off and tried numerous other meds with major problems so now went back on Ms contin. I tried Kadian but found it did not last well for pain . I also use dilaudid for break through pain. I take amitriptyline at night to help control pain.
I got it through a pain clinic doc first now regular md gives me the rx I have no bad side effects at all.isabee
She monitors me to make sure I don't "abuse them" - her words. They make me feel too loopy to take for fun, but they do help with my overall pain on bad fibro days.
