A flare up is a time when symptoms are suddenly more intense. Flare ups vary for every person. For example, some people experience a few flare ups a year while others feel they are in a constant flare. Many things can trigger a flare including stress, sleep deprivation, to much exercise, Weather, hormonal changes with menstruation, etc.
Personally, my flares last on average about two weeks and leave me in agony and stuck in bed. This is followed by a short period of relief...
Hope this helps to answer your question!

I agree with Figureskater about flare ups.
After having a long flare and being in bed with pain and exhaustion for a year and half, I have had a break in such intense flares. Now i have occasional flare ups lasting from 4 to 10 days but are not as intense.
Usually the pain and fatigue and other symptoms of fibro are still with you during the remissions or some times not.
Fibro is such a personal illness as it flows with each of us in different patterns.
I hope it does get better for you and you can keep it under control.
Best of luck and Gentle hugs
Flare ups for me come after extreme exertion (mowing the lawn, kayaking, etc) or extreme stress (my 20 year old son's chaos is a good one for that). For me, when I'm in a flare up I feel like my whole body is on fire. I can feel every nerve ending, and they are all burning. It's like the worst fever I've ever known, from the worst flu I've ever had. I can't stand to be touched, even gently. Every single nerve ending feels like it is screaming.
They usually last about a week and then start to fade. The only thing that has ever alleviated a flare like this for me is Lyrica. Unfortunately it doesn't work at all for the regular day to day pain for me, so I don't take it all the time. But it definitely seems to help the "my nerves are on fire" pain. Nothing else does.
