Good morning! We're all still here! (I think?)
OK, first off, saw a post on another group by a CL. Turns out the error messages and glitches are hitting DS staff too but they're getting the software geniuses on it to patch the problem. Here's hoping...
Meanwhile, yesterday was horrible. Mom's Appointment Marathon Day. She said, in front of a neurosurgeon, that I don't know what it's like to need meds and hurt and be tired.
I locked up. I came very near walking out of there but I didn't know how to get to where our car was.
I'd had no food in over six hours at that point, only water, and one freaking breath mint. We couldn't eat food in the waiting rooms at the hospital and such. Mom sunk her nails into my arm like a witch's claw into a horror movie victim, so I couldn't even bail to the lobby or anything to grab a granola bar. She kept me right by her. Other than her MRI, which was when we had breakfast, btw.
Yeah.
Today: WELLNESS.
Think of your own. OK? Just... I know we have responsibilities and families and all that. I know. But try to take 15 minutes for your own wellness. Going without breaks yesterday reminded me how often I am blessed to be able to take little ones otherwise, and I am paying with compound interest today. And today I have to go to the big post office to maila package. Yikes...

Recommended reading: "The Radium Girls" by Kate Moore. Good read on the glow-in-the-dark dial painters of a hundred years ago, and the way the docs and lawyers screwed 'em over. And how they fought. It's not very technical or medical, laid out as a narrative rather than a case study, so ti's easy to follow. Hint: Exposure to radium sucks.

In 1859 on this date, Nathan Ames patented the escalator. I find it interesting it took longer to patent a moving sidewalk/walkway than moving *stairs*. I can't confirm a patent date, but a moving walkway such as we see in airports? First seen in 1893, and at an airport at Dallas's Love Field in the 1950s. People realllllly hate stairs, I'm guessing.
Happy Birthday to Smokey the Bear, more or less created today in 1944 by the US Forest Service and Wartime Advertising Council. This was partly in response to the lac kof men to fight major wildfires, of course, but also just darn useful. Bears. Cuddly and scary all at once.
Today in 1999, then-Pres of Russia Boris Yeltsin fired his whole cabinet for the second time in 17 months.

And I gotta go back to bed. Sorry, all. I'm only viable if horizontal today. Blessings, and thank you for your support yesterday:-) Much puma love to everyone!

We're all troubled.WSo, to remind ourselves we're not at rock bottom (this is a reverse optimism thing I learned as a kid):We are not living on the island of Krakatoa when the volcano goes boom!Yeah, okay, that sucks.***Toay in 1942, Pierre Laval announced that the way to free France was for Germany to win WW2. Pierre did not win a lot of friends. When the war ended, quite quickly he was tried...

Another day, another ouchie? My bruised achilles tendon (don't ask) makes my foot numb. Wonky on meds, whacked it.Now, as to fibro:A lot of reports are going around some parts of social media that fibro (and dang near anything else) are caused by post-Covid, post-flu, post-vaccinations, post-pick-something.1. Your risk of death or serious complications beyond "ow, that shot hurt!" are typically...
I woke to intense rib pain, especially on my left. I do my best to not sleep on that side, so I don't know what's causing it. I also know it's not kidney related because I know what that feels like thanks to bouts with stones. Boy, does this hurt, even to just touch it lightly.
A relatively quiet day for me. A rare thing lately. I have school planning to do and a couple of errands after bible study.
I'm seriously considering traveling to see the total eclipse. I'm trying to get my family on board. I think it would be a great opportunity.
Here's hoping everyone's day is uneventful.
I actually slept like a rock yesterday, just not for long enough. I stayed up a little later than intended to talk to a friend about a difficult conversation she had with her bf. I probably won't have much time for self care for at least a few days. Tomorrow, in addition to all my normal stuff, I have a doctors appointment for the skin issues I've been having, and I'm going horseback riding. It's been way too long since I've been to the barn, so that's worth rushing around for, but I'm so tempted to cancel the doctor appointment. But my arm looks horrible and I've got another rash popping up on my leg, so I really need to get checked out...
Leo, it hurts me to see you be abused by your mother. I feel so badly for you. I hope you can just rest today and take care of you.
Bobbii, sorry to hear of the rib pain. I pray it lessens as the day goes on.
Miki, I hope the doctor can figure out your rash problem. That has to be so annoying.
I did make it to NM. We had a bad landing in Atlanta though, where the plane bounced hard twice. It jarred my neck and back and I was up all night in pain.
It was good to see my son and family. Hugs from the grandkids are always wonderful. There is a pool at their apartment, so we got out of the NM sun, and swam in the pool where there is a tree shading the area. Then my son grilled pork steaks. Delish.
Not sure what's in store for today. They have something planned for this afternoon. Hope my back takes it ok.
Here's a funny for you. My wheelchair only needed to go about 40 ft. My gate was the first one where my plane landed. Lol
Love you guys. I read all of your posts from yesterday. I was just in too much pain to respond during the night. Blessings to all.
I wish your Mom would give you a break. You are a great daughter for being there for her when she needs you though. Take a well deserved break today....
Bobbii,
It would be great if you can get your family onboard for the trip to the eclipse! Once in a lifetime opportunity.
Miki,
It does sound like you should get that rash looked at. I had one a few years ago and let it go for awhile...turned out to be lymes. I'm glad that I got it to get it checked, even if a little late.
Well...I committed to getting three rooms and a porch picked up before the weekend. I did the easiest one yesterday...and cooked dinner on two different floors (chicken 4 stairs, spuds/salad down 4 stairs) and helped a little cleaning my Moms apartment, etc. It was wayyyyyy to much. About 10 last night I was taking Spartacus out and was so tired that I forgot my cane and forgot to take the stairs one at a time..twisted my leg a bit and almost fell. IN the middle of the night the "affected" leg has some very odd, severe cramps along with some pretty intense lower back pain of all things. BUT, the weirdest thing is that after hobbling about in the middle of the night and taking some ibus I slept a couple of hours...waking up just a little sorer than yesterday morn. Like a self healing thing?? :-) I kind of like that! Just two rooms and a porch left...Gin will do the floors and tables. Team effort with hopalong Kel and all that.
Hope you all find some peace/healing today,
Kel
Bobbii, OMG, I would love to travelt for the eclipse! Hope it works out optimally!
Ida, big purrs of support and strength.
Miki, yeah, time to check the rash. Might be nothing, might be anything, better safe than itchy.
BTW, Mom's behavior is like this b/c of the tumor. *sigh* She wasn't like this before. Sooo.... yeah. Suckage!
Pum apower to everyone:-)
Leo, I know it's because of the tumor, but it all still has to hurt you inside.
The rooms are small (except the kitchen) and I really just have to tidy them. Probably something I could do In a few hours if my leg was right. The way it is now, I'm wondering if three days is enough! :-) At least it'll keep me out of trouble for awhile.
Leo I am glad that your day long torture is over. I hope that you can lay low today and take care of you.
Bobbii a quiet day will do you wonders. I hope that you can find some time to do self care.
Miki I hope the doctor can figure out the skin rash. It sounds like you will be busy today but you are busy everyday.
Ida I hope that your neck and back lets up. Hopefully your time with the grandkids will be a fun relaxing time.
Kel it sounds like you are going to be pushing yourself the next few days. I hope you can find some time to rest between rooms.
I love the new coffee table. It is dark walnut with a glass insert. We are completely replacing our livingroom furniture. What we have is old and run down. Of course because we are ordering it online, because I can't walk that much to go shopping in the stores, it means having to put it together. It is going to be ungodly hot the next few days so I am doing things indoors. I really need to clean my patio but nope not in this heat. I hope you all have the best day possible.
Go easy and stay cool in the heat.
Ida, yeah. It hurts. I keep lookig at old pics of her to remember who she was beore the tumor, not have this be the version of her that I remember.
I'm under assault again. The last few days, it has been the road construction people resurfacing our street. They start at 7 AM. The street is ready for paving. The sooner that is finished the better. Right now, it is the lawn people next door. I've had enough loud noise this week to last me for the rest of the year.
I'm juggling a bunch of piddly stuff today. The freight company can't deliver the new pool on Saturday as scheduled due to a "transit delay." I chose another date and time online per their instructions. They got the date right but not the time so I had to call them about that.
And now, a UPS package that has been missing since last week and never in the UPS system (even though they picked it up from the seller) was just delivered via UPS to my niece at her rental. The seller and I have been chasing this thing for a week. The seller shipped a replacement to me because the first one was "lost." Now, the replacement has to be rerouted if this package is intact. I have to track her down as I don't want it stolen. She is off of work today so she is somewhere between there and her parents house.
I've had a facial mask on for a couple of hours because I keep getting interrupted. Time to get it off and shower. I will check back later. Shout out to Bear and Blue!
I htink we're only going to be able to see a fraction of a sliver of that eclipse here in Hawaii. We're too far south. But March of last year was a pretty good one, not whole but half or more :). You guys are so lucky! Take pics for me please!
Still without a laptop, Monday made 2 weeks. My SIL bought my mom one so I'm borrowing it at the moment. Hard to believe. This is ridiculous. My husband said, "Maybe it's good for you." What a jerk. Meanwhile I have important work waiting, like school stuff, applications, and GI Bill things to do. Ugh.
Tossed and turned last night. I have another gazillion calls to make today. I had to commandeer mom's laptop for a short bit so I could see what they were talking about. I REALLY need my computer back. Luckily, my husband's shiny new desktop will be arriving today. So I know he'll lend me one of his 2, I'm guessing his laptop since he'll be busy with his new toy lol.
I realized as I was turning in for bed last night I forgot all about rescheduling Hershey's soft claws appt early this am. Neither of us can make it. I hope PetCo doesn't hate us. Btw I finally remembered what the question was for PTSD therapy today lol.
My husband wants to have a "wine chemistry conference" here at the house on Friday. It will be a teleconference from Oahu's campus so he may have some students over. So now I know why he was in a rush to get the shiny new desktop, for it's high speed (live streaming capabilities).
Leo, it burdens me to read about your day yesterday and how your mom treated you. Please make sure to always carry some snacks or food with you next time you have to take your mom anywhere. That's one thing I've learned from dealing with mine. What was supposed to be one thing she'll turn into a whole messy day. My
heart goes out to you and I hope you rest today and do something nice for yourself. Lots of hugs and hot chocolate!
Miki horse back riding sounds awesome :). Hope they figure out your rash, that's annoying, yah?
Bobbii, please post pics if you do go travel to see it yay!
Ida, sorry about the yucky landing, hope your back is calming down now. Silly about the gate lol
Kel, sorry you tweaked some stuff, ouch. Take it easy on yourself... the cleaning will get done slowly.
Autumn, yay new furniture
I'm sorry if I skipped anyone. I'm not used to mom's keyboard it's funky, there are arrows in odd places and it slides all over the place. So if you see anything cuckoo just ignore it. Have a blessed Wed.
Angela, that was a crazy day for you. I hope your shrink can get you some more klonopin
Woke up with a nasty headache at 6 am, fed cats, then I went back to bed for a few hours.
Ache like usual. I find myself getting worn out from the pain. I'm trying to keep my head up but it's draining to always ache some way in another. I know you guys understand.
Have a good day everyone and try to enjoy what's left of Summer. It will be over before you know it!
