Good morning! Why am I awake? Becuase I did not sleep! Weather shift atop the last of the house fixing flared me up a bit. Today, I hopefully can convince Hubby to move furniture back where it belongs, but if not? Pfft. I'ts been out of whack for nearly 6 weeks. I'll cope.
Weird fact: It took less than 5 gallons of water to cause all the damage. We use thrice that in a day for showers, etc., per person, on average. (Pause for google... US Geological Survey and US EPA estimates disagree, but figure 70-120 gallons per day per person. Depends if you count water use for lawns, swimming pools, and car-washing. I don't, b/c I don't have a pool an dnever water my lawn or flower bed.) You can use 20 gallons just running the dishwasher, and even a high-efficiency washer like mine can still use 25 gallnos a load. Average shower ranges between 2-5 gallons per minute. (I use 5 gallons total unless it's hair-washing day, then it's much higher, b/c even cut relatively short, I have a lot of hair to rinse.) And, just for kicks, newer toilets use 1.2 to 1.6 gallons per flush, so do that math for your own personal self. Old ones can use up to 4 gallons per flush. Thus the variation in estimates....
BTW, another reason for variations in estimates? I'm probably one of the few I know who actually 1. installed water-saving appliances and 2. uses water-saving methods every day. I grew up on a well. Water could run out. Ergo, even if my dad wasn't on his psychotic-Navy-boot-camp-training mode, we were sparing. But a lot of people report they do all that and they don't. I was raised by a Navy vet who did his time on submarines. The water limitations? Epic.
And we're right into the trivia, I see. Hmm.
Anyway, this weekend's war, so to speak, is getting through the rest of hte cleanup. I did the gentle detergent yesterday. Today is the mop-with-the-spray-of-cleaning-polishing-stuff. Takes for-freaking-ever. Have to use my fancy mop with the fleecy head. I make my own, btw, b/c hey, you just need *fleece*. YOu don't have to buy the $15 ones. You can, for $15, buy a *lot* of fleece by the yard from a fabric store, cut it, run it up quick on a sewing machine, and have about a dozen of 'em. Or superglue the fabric if you hate sewing. Whatever. It's like using old t-shirts and socks for cleaning rags. I know people who buy rags. Ummm.... that's what old clothes are for, right?

FIBRO TIP! Go to the home improvement store and buy a little hand dolly (hand truck). THis one, which cost me $30, is a HUGE help. OMG. Why did I live without it? http://www.lowes.com/pd/Milwaukee-Steel-Standard-Hand-Truck/50068183
Whyd o I recommend? First off, if you have to move furniture. Slide under one end (the long side of a shelf unit, say), tip gently, and you can hack a 250 pound move without feeling more than 40-50 pounds of stress on your body. Second, if you have to bring in bags of mulch or similar from the car for your gardening? Stack 'em up, roll it on! Third, works *awesome* for *laundry hampers*. If you don't ahve to go up or down stairs, that is. Also useful for: bulk cat litter, dog food, cases of beverages, and you can splurge and get one that has straps and stuff. (I just use bungees.) I have no idea how I would have survived this home disrepair without mine. None. Still fibro-flared, but nothing like as bad as might have been. Oh, and if you have two, and one helper who complains about his "back twinge" every three months (like my hubby)? You can move couches too. A lot more easily, at least. Not without effort, but hey, it helps!

Weird trivia moment: Most fumbles in the NFL? Star QB Brett Favre. How does that work? Simple. You need to be the one with the ball to fumble it.
Odd records that still stand: Most interceptions thrown? QB Jim Hardy of the Chicago Cardinals. Yes, it goes back *that* far! He threw 8 in a big loss against the Eagles... and the next week threw for 6 touchdowns against Baltimore when they were the Colts. The most interceptions in a game record still stands after 66 years.
Artists don't all die starving. Andy Warhol and Pablo Picasso both died with estates in the millions of dollars. Picasso achieved this partly b/c he lived a very long life (born 1881, died 1973), an dhte fact his style changed regularly, with the times. Warhol, the pop artist from Pittsburgh (born Andrew/Andrjz/etc. Warholski), courted controversy and commercialism, which of course increased the value of his works. He also did a lot besides art (managed the punk group Velvet Underground, penned books).

OK, I gotta go drink hot liquid and rest up some more. Hubby's new job starts Monday so I am staying outta his last "off" weekend. He wants to watch nothing but horror movies for basically 24 hours. Yikes!
Health and hugs to all!

Welcome to the Perseid meteor showers, the "biggies" usually every year. (The Leonids beat 'em one year IMHO).AND today much of the northern hemisphere will see 5 to 99% solar eclipse. How cool is that? Your best bet is to be in the UK or norhtern Spain, where totality is excellent before sundown. Me, I'll get a super duper tiny itty bitty slice of it, so little that it won't be noticeable. New...

... observed a solar eclipse.

Kel: Better safe than sorry indeed. One side of my family had loads of cases of skin cancer. I have to be very careful as well. Hope the day did improve from the keep on keeping on.
Bobbii: Sorry that you're having such a busy day on little sleep. It can be hard to get help for the things that are made difficult by fibro. Good luck, mean mom! I hope you'll get some rest after chores and bringing down the hammer.
Fantod: Break the deck down? I have no mental picture what this means. Just to winter-proof and put things away? I hope you had a good time a the retirement party and that you won't feel too poorly because of it today!
Idajoy: Sorry to hear about the poor sleep and multiple pains going on. I hope your errands didn't ruing your dinner plans to much. An enjoyable, painful night is better than an aggravating and painful night, I suppose? Hope it went as well as can be expected. Take care!
AngelaJo: Cheers for the pharmacist that is paying attention to the things that ER doctors didn't bother to check! How incredibly frustrating. Rudeness like that woman's in the waiting room would also not have gotten a polite response from me. She has no right to talk about your health while being ignorant about the details.
Bluesky: Daily headaches for two weeks? Commisserations. Headaches are very taxing on quality of life. And long shopping? Yeah, no. Not for me. Even when I was doing a lot beter health-wise, I had no patience for that. Great that you've already decided for yourself not to overstretch for the SIL visit that was planned without your consent. Very commendable to want to stand up for you health. I know I dont' always do it enough.
Milly: Fortunately I'm not having chronic nausea problems, but all my life, nausea and vomiting have been very present for me. I cringed in sympathy when you mentioned the warm tire store while queasy. Ugh. The other day I was making breakfast for my partner while fighting back nausea, when I dropped eggs in the skillet to scramble, I also had to scramble out of the room and to the toilet. The scent didn't agree with me. Hope your weekend is going okay. I really wish showers weren't such an energy drain. Take care!
Patty: How terrible that your county is so bad about granting disability to chronically ill. Like the flu, they say? Funnily enough, if they have a bout of flu, and you force them to keep working without taking any form of medication (flu meds suppress symptoms, most fibro meds don't) they would call it impossible and inhumane, even if they only have to keep that up for a week or two while sick. Suddenly they complain about how awful it is and how pushing through it makes things worse. Gee, you'd almost think that's what the chronically ill are telling you. Nice to see you in the check-in! Don't feel bad about not replying to all. Fellow fibromites should understand that we can't do more than we feel capable of.
I broke something today that was already a re-purchase from when I broke it a few months ago. I'm so mad. I can get so furious at myself over stupidity. Throw money that we don't have in the trash, why don't you? I'd punch myself in the face if it wasn't so unwieldy to do...
Have a good Sunday, everyone.
I seriously feel rotten. I realized I have gone 2 months without my daily long walk. Too hit and miss. Not good. I need that for keeping my leg working. Halloween resolution instead of New Year's?
Soft day to all.
Leo, Good Sunday morning, I'm so sorry you still have fleas.
Kel, I'm glad you got he moles removed. I need to schedule that appointment. I've never been checked and I have many that should be.
Bobbii, I hate that feeling of being on my mine with the chores and things. After being on my feet all day yesterday, who was still up getting dinner ready, bathing the girls, scrubbing chocolate out of clothes, and then getting my girls ready for bed and reading with them. It's exhausting. I hope you get some rest today and yesterday wasn't too bad on you.
Fantod, I hope you enjoyed the retirement party last night. My mom has a dolly like that, and we use it sometimes. I need one.
ida, I'm sorry you were out running errands when you should have been home resting. I hope you enjoyed the dinner with church friends. It sounds like a fun and painful time, :-). I second your comment on the fleas. LOL.
angela, I'm so sorry you had to talk to that crazy lady. I hope today is by far better than the last week. I'm sorry for all of your pain and dizziness you experienced.
blue, I'm sorry you are still being haunted by migraines. Your Costco trip sounds painfully long. I'm sorry you were late to your appointment too while waiting on your husband. It sounds like you have been busy. I would hate having my family or my husbands family come stay with me. I need my space and time to handle and deal with my pain. It's no fun doing that with other people in the house. Plus it will take more out of you when it comes to cleaning and hosting family. I hope your husband plans on helping a lot.
milily, I hope you get on today. I was glad to see you on yesterday. I can't believe you are still sick and having so much nausea. Are you taking anything for nausea? You should try to get a prescription, there are many medications that help with nausea, if you haven't already. I hope it gets better.
patty, I remember you. It is rough working fulltime, I work too, but I am lucky enough to sit most of my day. I can't imagine teaching like you and Bobbii. I hope you catch a break somehow.
We went to the Orr Family Farm yesterday with my girls, all of their cousins came from my side of the family, and my sister and her husband, and my mom. It was the longest 5 hrs. but it was fun. The girls had such a good time. I had a few rough patches of feeling like I was going to collapse, or that my left foot was broken and I wouldn't make it another step. Otherwise, it went well, haha. Today we are getting ready for church and then have grocery shopping.
I hope everyone has a good day!
I had so much fun at our dinner outing with church friends. Despite fibro, arm, and knee pain, I was actually joking around like my old self, and enjoying my evening. God gave me a good evening, and I'm grateful for it.
My knee is getting worse by the minute. I went to church and was in pain the whole time. Hubby and I drove separately, as there was a big church meeting after the service. Those take forever, and I there was no way I could sit through all of that.
Tomorrow I'm going to my son's to babysit Tuesday and Wednesday. It is too late for them to find someone else, so I will be driving 3 hours with my bad knee....and then trying to chase after a 10 month old who has decided he knows how to scoot all over. When I come home Thursday morning, I'm going to be calling my orthopedic surgeon to get in to see him sooner than the 10th. Something is super haywire with my knee. Hurts like heck.
Football and packing for me today. Hubby has been doing all the laundry because it's in the basement and I can't do stairs.
Take care, everybody. We are in this together.
Aloha, Milily and Patty! I was so happy to see you in the check in! I hope you keep coming back :)
Leo, I know what you mean about the daily walk. I hope you can get back into it. I haven't been walking around the block 4x / week since we moved. One lap in the pool yesterday and my muscles burned. :(
Sonya, I hate throwing money down the trash too when something gets broken. A couple days ago I glued a sauce bowl back together. It's probably junk, though... I haven't tested it yet for leaks or if it can hold food w/o breaking again. Thank you for the encouragement, btw. I do feel like I got railroaded for the Holidays. Not that I dislike his relatives, quite the opposite but... I just wanted some space after the busy year we've had (still having).
Twin, 5 hours of fun?? After 1 hour it wouldn't be so fun anymore, more like torture. I'm glad you got through it and the girls had fun. Being around their cousins and your sister sounds like good times. The giant chairs looked really silly. Good luck with grocery shopping. About Christmas... it's making me anxious because I'll still be getting my mom settled in and plugged into her programs and new whatevers... so I know it'll be mentally and physically tiring. The last thing I'll want to deal with is a house full of guests. And you're right about being tired and in pain... you want your space, not want to deal with people crowding you.
Ida, I'm sorry about your knee. I would definitely encourage them to find someone else. PLease don't force yourself to drive out there. When's the next time you se your doctor? Glad your hubby's been taking over laundry. What a nice man.
Went to the farmer's market yesterday and lost my husband in the crowd. I really hate that. He's so much faster than me, I turn around and "poof" gone. It happens quite often when we shop. So I tried walking around to look for him, then I just wanted out of there. I needed a couple of items I couldn't find at the store for making borscht. Anyway, this happened last time, too, the crowd gave me a panic attack and he was the one holding the car key. I *have* to have a car key next time. This can't keep repeating. My headache didn't help me feel any better.
We played around with the oldest form of photography called cyanotype where you "paint" a couple of chemicals onto a sheet of paper in a dark room. And then whatever object you lay on top of it, the sun will turn the chemical blue around the object. That's where the term "blue print" originated from. So, I did my 1st test sheet, only testing grades of 1 coat, 2 coats, and 3 coats of the chemical (obviously labeled) and areas where it the sun exposure was 1 min, 2 mins, and 3 mins. That way I could tell how light or dark of a shade of blue I want to use for my play-around art project. I might try my 1st one today. I'll try taking a "picture" of a fern using this technology and see what happens.
Then went to the pool and swam some laps together. I think that's the 1st time we actually swam together. Usually if he goes to the pool with me, he just sits in the shade with a book and waits till I'm done.
Church today. And then hopefully the rest of the day I'll just be focusing on art related things. I have oral surgery this week. Next week I have a follow up with my rheumatologist and get my blood work results for all those autoimmune related things. We still need to get mom a bed.
Well, I contacted my son concerning my knee. He said they have options of people at church to watch the kids. They don't want me to fall when trying to carry the baby. I know I can't handle babysitting right now. They were fine about me not coming. My hubby found my cane, so I'm using that. That is how unstable I have gotten. I'll call my doctor tomorrow.
ida, I'm so glad your son is going to find someone else. I was with Blue on asking them to please find someone else. There is no way you should even attempt that drive, let alone tempt watching a 10 month old. I really hope your pain gets better.
Blue, I'm praying your surgery goes great this week. You are going to be so busy with moving your mom in, I think November and December are going to be so overwhelming for you. I'm praying your hubby helps, and that moving your mom goes so smooth. I'm glad you had a good swim with your hubby. I wish your husbands family could stay somewhere instead of with you. I don't mind doing family stuff, but I need to go home and have my own space afterwards too, so I feel bad for you.
Well I just ate some chocolate chips and now I need to get some stuff done. I really have a lot to do. I hate it all. :-)
Ida, I'm glad they found someone to baby sit.
Twin, I get that too about him not wanting to talk about it. Yesterday I mentioned how these headaches are such a pain lately and I hope when they do the surgery it will go away and he changed the subject to: "Hey, did you know it's a full moon out?" It's not like I was going on and on, just made a side comment. But I guess I complain too much?? Ugh.
My good mood is completely ruined today. It's been drama with the husband all day.
