I can't believe it. I'm floored. I'm extatic.
Yes, we're going to have to put resources into appliances, since it's a mostly gutted apartment, but the price per month is lower than any place we've looked at, while it's one of the biggest places we've looked at! A little over 936 square feet of space. I think that's very little in some places in the US, but here, 87 square meters in one of the old cities would cost a complete fortune! But it's so affordable!
We spent last night putting all our paperwork together. We ignored the few lines for personal info on the forms and I insisted we include a separate document where we introduce ourselves in some short paragraphs, with a cute photo of us. Well it worked!!
Less than 12 hours after submitting that, the real estate company called me and said the owner wanted to offer us the place. Two places were on offer from the same owner, and we were interested in both, but we were offered the one that everyone had much more interest in! An entire week of viewings booked every day for those places, AND WE GOT THE MORE DESIRED APARTMENT!
I can't tell you how much this means to us. While we'll have to put more money than desired into initial appliances that the place lacks, it's a huge steal. We're renting "kaal," which means bald or bare, meaning we're lucky that it will even have flooring, since kaal usually means you get space stripped of anything and everything. But, especially if we stay there for several years while my partner gets her PhD, we'll save thousands in the fact that our monthly rent is this low. So that initial investment should be offset in the long run.
I'm so happy. My partner deserves a nice home. A home that is cheap enough that we can relax and stay there a while. We were applying to other places that we knew should only be a temporary home because the rent would leave us too uncomfortable. She was so stressed out because, coming from Florida, she wasn't used to the insane and perpetual housing shortage here that will leave finding a small and overly expensive home a 6-12 month job.
I know we haven't signed the contract yet, BUT WE DID IT!

I'm alive, I'm sleeping like a rock, and for some reason I wanted cherry juice so that seems to be helping. (??? Weirdo that I am.)***Infamous therapies over history:1. The Attic. The madwoman in the attic is a motif in literature going waaaaaay back: the nutty female relative is locked in the attic. (See: Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte for a grotesquely racist version of it, and Charlotte Perkins...

Welcome to the Perseid meteor showers, the "biggies" usually every year. (The Leonids beat 'em one year IMHO).AND today much of the northern hemisphere will see 5 to 99% solar eclipse. How cool is that? Your best bet is to be in the UK or norhtern Spain, where totality is excellent before sundown. Me, I'll get a super duper tiny itty bitty slice of it, so little that it won't be noticeable. New...
