My dd and I have a terrible problem with shower water now that our community is using a new combination water purifier. Chloramine is a combination of chlorine and ammonia (get that? On containers of both chlorine and ammonia you are told NEVER to mix them due to the noxious fumes that may result!) In the past I have used this Vitamin C water filter and it works. I didn't replace before because of funds, but we can't stand it, so I'm getting it today and wanted to pass the info on to my friends here: http://www.pure-earth.com/vitashower.html
I also filter our water, though I use a different one. It's worth every penny! Water tastes good, and no yucky feeling on our skin when we bathe, either. Too many chemicals in the world as it is, don't want them in my shower, too!

I doubt your Vit. C filter will work to remove the Chloramine from your tap water. Chloramine removal is kind of involved and requires super-chlorination.
Does your Vit. C filter actually say it removes Chloramine? Try doing some research not at their site.
Chloramine increases lead levels, especially in older homes, and it causes respiratory problems for asthmatic swimmers. It also creates a better environment for the production of organic carcinogens.
It is harmful to other animals, which is why we have to neutralize the water before we put the fish in. How do we even begin to think it won't be harmful to human animals?
Do your homework and start going to City Council meetings. They usually have a public comment period where you can comment about anything you want for 3-5 minutes.
Make them aware. They probably have no idea. Get some neighbors to come along. If you can't make the meetings, at least write a letter to each council member as well as you local newspaper. Knowledge is power. Spread it around.
Municipal water treated with Chloramine is not illegal... in fact, it's the 'new' way to go. There WAS a big to~do when they made the switch (I am just postulating here, but am not alone in it) when residents complained that their fish in their ponds died... there's probably not a municipality in the US that doesn't have some garbage they're doing and talking out both sides of the mouth about...
unduki, do you know how your water IS purified before you get it? I don't hold out any hope about ours... we live in such a hot spot riddled area in the northeast.
