Good morning!
So I ordered overnight delivery on something a week ago tomorrow.
It started in Pennsyllvania. It made it to Virginia. Then it got to New jersey. It is now back in Pennsylvania, in a different city. Overnight... a week ago. And with the holiday tomorrow (4 July)? ...
It was within 100 miles of me, and then somehow ended up and 8-hour drive away. I e-mailed UPS. I called UPS. I got nowhere on when I will see this. Which sucks b/c it is signature required and I kinda need to have a better window of delivery than "eventually", which is all I'm getting.
Google map this if you like: Pittsburgh PA to RIchmond VA to SaddleBrook, New Jersey (where the hell is that?!) to Philadelphia.
I don't get a refund. "Unforeseeable delays". Uhh.... your own tracking site said you mis-sorted the package. How is that an unforeseeable delay? And why was the package in New Jersey for four nights and three days? Was it near Atlantic City, having a blast at a casino?
Meanwhile, if I'd paid for regular delviery, it would've been here by now. *facepalm*

Anyone traveling for July 4th? Having fireworks, bonfires, barbecues?
The heat here will be prohibitive (heat indices in the 110*F range), so we're thinking... No. No picnics, no fireworks display visits, etc.
***
Now, if anyone missed it, which most probably did...
I had made a lovely red-white(ish) and blueberry jelly roll for the holiday week.
I posted this last night but here's thestory of why ther'es no picture of a lovely damn jelly roll with cute decorations:
I was going to take a picture. It was blueberry jam inside. It was white-sugar dusted tiny star cookies on top, and the outside was crusted in bright red sugar. Very lovely. But I was tired. I rested.
I heard a crunch-flap-thwap about two minutes after Hubby got home from work.
He picked it up in his hands off the plate to see how the bottom was sealed. Naturally, since it wasn't frozen solid (ARGH).... It's now... uh.... Sorta-Layered-Cake (?)... Broke in half and he dropped it to the plate, and it flopped.
He is alive but only b/c he agreed to give me a foot and leg rub with lotion, and handed me little lemon star-shaped cookies on demand, and dried my tears, and apologized twenty times, and then swept and mopped floors (they were already clean, but A for intent and effort).
The cookies are intact. I made about 4 dozen of the little buggers. Lemony, not too sweet, just barely dusted with sugar outside, so quite nice.
I'm just glad I didn't put buttercream rosettes or something on top of the jelly roll. It's enough a flopped-over twisted weird thing as it is!

Four hours of life baking and preparing and making and.... Yep. "How's it look on bottom?"
Curiosity kills more than cats.

Life is a trip. Let's enjoy the view together:-)

Welcome to the Perseid meteor showers, the "biggies" usually every year. (The Leonids beat 'em one year IMHO).AND today much of the northern hemisphere will see 5 to 99% solar eclipse. How cool is that? Your best bet is to be in the UK or norhtern Spain, where totality is excellent before sundown. Me, I'll get a super duper tiny itty bitty slice of it, so little that it won't be noticeable. New...

... observed a solar eclipse.

I could have walked your package over faster than UPS is getting it there! :-) It's suppose to rain here tomorrow so there may be no fireworks. My sis-in-law has a family BBQ on the 4th that has a better chance...rain chances will increase as the day goes on..so we'll try to hit that. Spartacus is already starting to get nervous from what's been going off in the neighborhood. He usually takes them fair but they do bother him some. I will enjoy the view with you! :-)
I hope that you all have a great 4th, be safe and get a little trippy!
Kel
Kel-sorry Sparty has to deal with several days of fireworks. My dog got worried about them this year, and since they're legal in NH there's a lot of fireworks here. I hope yiu have fun at the cookout and no rain
I couldn't sleep last night...my entire pelvic area was throbbing and the pain was radiating down the back of my legs. Most likely that is not normal but doctors don't seem to care so I gave up trying to do anything about it long ago. I was on birth control for a few years that made things regular but didn't do much for the crazy pms symptoms and only took the edge off the cramps, while making my GI issues worse. Ultimately not worth it to me. So I guess I get to just suck it up for the next 25 ish years. Oh joy. And we're going to be closed tomorrow so I'm hoping we won't be inundated with people whose cats have been having symptoms for 5 days but suddenly want it addressed before they go away tonight. Hugs everyone
Leo, I learned years ago when working for a presciption mail order company that there are "two" levels of customer service w/in UPS. There is the "how can we help you, direct you, and screw you over crew at the general line. 800.742.5877. This is what most people call as that is what google offers them.
But then there is the "managers" line. And that is at 800.782.7892. This is your group of staff who know's how to find a package and knows how to get it to you. The others, they are just glorified button pusher, this line, they get it done.
Just ask to speak to a "manager" on duty. Or if all else fails, call the shipper. They are the ones who can pull rank on UPS and get it out.
If it was Amazon? If it went beyond their allowed time frame, they will send a replacement immediately w/in 24hrs on their dime.
Oh and sharing your disappointment in them vs yelling is the biggest tool. I was dealing with Whirlpool last week and I just came out of the gates with "Is this (insert the stunt they pulled) just how Whirlpool plans to handle this situation?" And I tell you, I a shinney new set of knobs for our new oven in the matter of days not weeks.
I hope your package comes today.
And I'm sorry your cake did the crapie flop after your hubsters final inspection.
I'm glad your cookies and foot rub remedied that situation.
Kel, I agree, the works might go down the drain this year with the storms rolling in. But I love natures fireworks much more. Our upstairs loft/family room faces directly where the fireworks will be going off. And we are less than a mile away from where they will be shooting them off. I know the city will get around to it at some point as I doubt they will store the fireworks for some nutball to plan a heist.
Sorry Sparty gets scared. Tank does too. He tries his best to fit under our bed. He succeeds sometimes. We are having my mom, sis and niece over and I told them to bring their little dog also. I'd hate for her to be all scared at home also.
Miki, I'm sorry flo issues are so nasty for you. I'm here to share it does get better. I think my tap is getting close to running dry so to speak. I too went on BC to help with my cycles. No, it never made it that much better. BC also didn't prevent pregnancy (it aided actually with our oldest) for me. Nothing about my girly stuff is normal. I'm also the one who looses weight when pregnant but can't for the life of me when I'm not pregnant. I got the short end of the straw with all of it! LOL.
Hope today is easy going for you. Enjoy your day off tomorrow!
Angela, I saw what you posted, I'm so sorry you are going through all of that. I hope they find the reason, but I certainly don't hope it's CHF!!!
Well, folks, I'm a happy girl today. We have grass finally! And it's purdy! It's green and happy and all grassy and such. Today I'm waiting on the sprinkler dude to come out and make some final adjustments. Other than that, I'm just planning out my menu for tomorrow. Hope everyone has a good 3rd of July today!
Angela, healing to you. Wish I could do more.
Miki, my hormones use me for a soccer ball these days. And my hormones learned to play from Pele and Becks.
Got scheduled for my back procedure on the 9th. We have to be there at 7:15 and I should be taken back by 8:00 for the shot. I just want it done and over with.
Leo - I am sorry that you are having package problems. I made a note of that UPS managers number that Wonder provided. I've always had good luck with the number that I gave you which you were apparently already using. You should get a refund on the shipping - none of this is your fault. As for Hubby - who picks up a cake to see how it was put together??!! I can't understand how he thinks that is for sure. I'm sure it will taste divine even if it is a complete mess. I'm sorry that happened. No plans for the 4th. I may have a friend come over for a swim and that is about it. Our weather may be kind of iffy for that. Maybe we will go to a movie instead. My partner has a party of 160 which has to be fed for 3 days/3 meals a day starting Thursday so he is not too happy. He wanted to take the rest of the week off and just hang out/rest. Not so much.
Kel - Have you considered getting Sparty a thunder shirt? They are available at Petco etc. Supposed to be pretty effective for dogs that don't like fireworks. I hope that you can get to the BBQ and enjoy it.
Miki - I am sorry that you are so miserable. There are treatments for PMS available other than BC. I would go back to the gyno and at least explore some other options. You should not have to suffer like this. I hope that your day at work doesn't run out to be really crazy. Feel better!
Wonder - Grass at long last! Your new and improved view must be just great. Now the watering begins... And, you won't have so much dirt and dust in the house. I hope that you have a good day with the boys!
Back to making phone calls and trying to sort some other stuff out. I have to go out and blow off the deck too. It is covered with crap from the neighbors Chinese elms and looks terrible. Hopefully, I can work off some of this angst about the phone situation and everything else that is making me upset. Hang in there people!
Leo, I can't believe hubby wanted to see how it was sealed at the bottom. That sounds like an incident that would happen with my kids. I'm sorry your package hasn't made it, I hope you get it soon.
kel, praying your burden is getting lighter. Our dogs don't like the fireworks either, but it's our little Elsa that will cry and cry. I hope your pain is getting easier to deal with. Hang in there.
miki, I hope the phone is quiet today and you can get out of there at a decent hour. And I"m sorry your pain is pretty bad with the added pms. Hopefully, you plan on taking it easy tomorrow?
Angela, I'm praying that you get to feeling better and that God gets you through this very tough time right now. You have really been dealing with a lot, remember to pace and rest.
Wonder, It sounds like you have good plans for the 4th with family. I hope you have lots of fun and get some rest after all of that cooking and baking. Congratulations! I bet that grass looks great!
My legs are hurting a lot. I keep stretching them at my desk but that only gives me minor relief for like 5 mins. I had to run by the healthfood store this morning, I need to run an errand at lunch, and then we are taking the girls to see fireworks tonight. I'm so exhausted from the day already I hope tonight is fun. My husband has been in a bad mood and I'm trying to convince myself now that his rude behavior will not get my upset. I get my feelings hurt so easily. I wish I was stronger.
I hope everyone has a great day.
Twin, when a husband isn't kind to a wife, of course it's painful. Duh. It's not about your strength. It's about respect and trust and common courtesy, IMHO.
Well, more time spent to find out jy package is in Kentucky, nobody seems concerned but me. OK, letting go and all that!
BTW, Hubby's family never never bakes for themselves, so he is genuinely child-like ignorant/curious about such things. He is utterly thrilled when he heats himself canned soup successfully, to give you perspective...
Yesterday and the day before was heavy vog. Sunday I was short of breath and Monday I had a blaring headache and throat pain. I didn't even know because the vog website had no info and only found out because I went out for errands and saw the haze. Saw my acupuncturist yesterday after he'd been gone for a month traveling Europe. I told him how bad my neck and shoulder pain had become and that I've been having trouble turning my head to the L. I've also had spasms on the back side of my ribs. He examined and said one of the ribs is out of alignment in the back. How does that even happen?
Btw, when I drove down to the VA to harass them in person, they were open but technically closed because of billing issues. Said they may still be closed through today. Those punks! Can't get them on the phone and can't deal with them in person. What good are they.
I want to do my linens today and tidy up around the house a little. Hubby comes home tomorrow evening. I thought our little town was having their famous parade tomorrow morning but it turns out they are waiting till the 7th. The whole island comes to see. Local politicians like to ride their horses in it... and 2 summers ago, princesses from each island rode in with flowers and feathers in their hair, wearing big, royal gowns draping down their horses. It was a sight to see.
Kel, yay a family BBQ, how fun :). I don't blame Spartacus for hating fireworks in the neighborhood, many of us humans do.
Miki, I'm sorr y about all the pain and PMS. I wish there was a way the doctors could help you and not give up on you. But it's an all too common story around here we all experience. Doctors don't know so they don't want to deal with it. Pfft!
Saw your post, Angela. I pray the docs get to the bottom of it asap!
Wonder, yaaaayyy grass!! No more dust!
Fantod, traditional land lines don't exist anymore? Sending lots of luck for all that AND for your back procedure too!
Twins, sorry about your legs and all those errands to run. It's not easy being mistreated while you are physically running on empty day after day. What you need is encouragement from your other half, not verbal beat downs. Because why kick someone who is already down? I have explained this to my husband too. But it has gone in one ear and out the other. Sending boat loads of chocolate, hugs, and prayers your way.
Leo the thing with the cake sounds like something my partner would do. I don't understand why they have to see how things stay on a plate.
Fantod I am glad your back shot is scheduled. I hope it helps. There is nothing more frustrating than sitting for days on the phone to get service.
Twins I am praying for your legs and that you have enough energy to lay back and enjoy the fireworks.
Angela I hate that you are having such a hard time. I hope they figure out what the cause of the swelling and fluids is very soon.
Wonder GRASS YAY! I could almost see it by the description you gave. It is amazing how many things have to be done when you move into a new house.
Miki I remember the days of pms and cramps and pain. I really feel for you. I had to have a hysterectomy at 34 because mine was so bad. I hope you get some relief.
I am taking it easy today. My ulcer is in raged. I can't even drink water without severe pain. My doctor doesn't seem to be to worried about it either. Please pray for me as my partner will be off the next 11 days on vacation and we can't afford to go anywhere. I am sure we will drive each other to distraction lol. I hope you all have a safe 4th.
Autumn, praying you survive the time with your partner. I hope they put you on medicine for it? I'm so sorry you are dealing with this. Healing hugs
Blue, Thanks, I know you understand exactly how low he can make me feel. Ugh, the VA is so worthless, I'm sorry. I wish it were easier for you and you had better support at home too.
Leo, UPS is ridiculous if for no other reason than not giving you a refund. I hope your package gets there soon. They lost a box that was accidently mailed when I moved the last time. The box that had the blanket my mom made me, my favorite books, childhood pictures. It still pisses me off and makes me sad just thinking of it. Maybe send hubby in search of the package as further repentance for his curiosity? Just a thought...
Kel we will have similar weather here as well, heat followed by rain and possible storms in the evening. Either way that will likely mean a 50lb beagle mix trying to climb into my lap. Poor Maggie just gets shoved so I end up with 70lbs of dog in my lap. The things we do for our furry babies.
Miki I hope that today isn't too rough on you. I did the birth control shots and they helped considerably for quite some time. The pills were no good. I hope you get to enjoy your time off tomorrow.
Wonder I'm glad that you now have purdy green grass to look at. I'm sure the kids will love playing on it and it will be great for the 4th.
Fantod I hope a little bit of outdoor clean up helps with the anxiety. There is something so therapeutic about cleaning I think. Something so accomplished and such a nice release. It's akin to running for me.
Twin I hope you know that him hurting your feelings does not make you weak; it makes him weak. It makes him weak for not dealing with his feelings in an appropriate manner and instead taking them out on you an easy target. You are a strong woman for handling your own medical issues, those of your daughter, and being an amazing mother to both of your daughters. And I have to say it, you are an even stronger woman for dealing with his crap; I know I couldn't. Sending you hugs and chocolate chips.
Blue dealing with the vog sounds exhausting, I hope that it goes down soon. That parade sounds wonderful and beautiful, I hope you get to enjoy it on the 7th.
Autumn I hope having your partner their will provide comfort instead of driving you crazy. I hope them being there will allow you to rest some and maybe the ulcer will decide to cooperate some.
