Good morning!
Thanks to Hurricane Florence, I may be out of touch Friday and/or... Well, I dunno, really. My area is slated for heavy heavy heavy rains, and we've just had a week of those from leftovers from a different tropcial system. I'm talking 20 inches of rain in 10 days rain. That's half the annual total. And, btw, we had that already in late May and June, soooo.... Wet year? Yes. So wet that even mushrooms can't grow. No joke. Too wet for *shrooms* to grow, y'all.
Now, that said, I am hopeful Flo will change her mind and fizzle out somewhere else and drop all that rain somewhere else, but.. Nope. *sigh* Well, at least all our bridges are rebuilt from the summer stuff. But we're already running high, so ... Yeah. Won't take much rain. And God help the poor bastards downstream.
Which reminds me: IF YOU LIVE DOWNSTREAM/RIVER of major weather events, please keep an eye on those events. Floods go one way as a rule --- down the river --- and I continue to be amazed by people who are shocked when the river floods due to heavy rains upstream. Where'd they think the water was going? *headscratch* Is this just a "Leo's an old farm fart" thing?
(Please do not parse "Leo is an old farm fart" out of context. Thank you.)

To-do list: sandbags. Emergency kit update. Ice. Meds. (Yep, people forget to get meds.) And thank God our roof is solid and we got the gutters and all fixed already. I would not face this mess without that. Do wish we'd had a chance to trim back a couple trees, but the big pine is just... well, is what it is. We'll lose a few small branches, but hopefully nothing major. Usually takes 12-24 inches of wet snow to snap those on a good healthy pine in my area. J
Meanwhile...
Also to-do:
Get Mom ready for all this. (ack)
Laundry.
Reschedule a few dozen things.
Strangel Primping Percy, AKA Hubby, b/c he just doesn't see why we need to be this prepared. He said that a long time about about Hurricane Isabel. We were th eonly people with hot food for 3 days. THAT is why... *facepalm* He's up there foofing his hair for work (he gels and blow dries, ladies, and takes 4 times as long as I do with my mop, but in fairness, genes bestowed upon him a lot of thick hair that has to be kept very strictly controlled or he looks like a 1980s heavy metal singer, hair-wise)... I'm asking him to just pleaes run me to home store before work... Nope, hair dryer is on! He's in his own world!
Also, TMI alert: He blow dries his hair while he's naked. Not even a towel. Gentlemen, do your women a favor. Either close the door or put on a towel if you're prone to that. Please? Some things gal shouldn't be on eye level with as she comes up the stairs. (Yes, bath at head of stairs.) If I wasn't a farm kid, this would have been far more traumatic, I suspect. Then again, as I said... farm kid. You see those bits flapping about on horses, cows (bulls), goats (?!) and miscellaneous, you really aren't easily fazed. Still yucky, IMHO, but I won't faint.
Anyway... If we get to the store today by 10 AM, we'll be okay. After that? Hell no.
Ironically, people here will freak out more at the idea of a hurricane than at actual weather events like tornadoes and derechos and blizzards. ??? I figure if I won't lose my roof and I won't freeze to death, I'm good... Am I weird?
Item 80,239 on the to-do list: Try to understand humans.

And, of coure, I'm prepped for lost kitties, but for a miracle, next door's kid came home from college specifically for this "event" and has their cats well in hand, rounded up, and cuddled. She's a good kid. (She's almost 20, FFS... Kid. Yikes. I'm old. But I've known her since she was, like, y'know, 8 or 9!) Anyway, she admired our set-up for the cats, when she came to collect them. LilMiss was NOT happy. She likes her hidey-hole in our house. Oooh, what a face!
And now to get Mom prepped as well. Gah.
I'm not saying there's no danger. I'm saying... prepare, don't panic. Y'know? Panic is for when disaster has hit and you're wondering where your hosue went sort of situation.
Isn't it odd what situations we'll panic about? Doctor office, I'ma wreck. Hurricane, I'm like, "Eh, I got this covered." WTF?
Folks, to-do today: Figure out this puma, b/c damn, I'm weird.

Another day, another ouchie? My bruised achilles tendon (don't ask) makes my foot numb. Wonky on meds, whacked it.Now, as to fibro:A lot of reports are going around some parts of social media that fibro (and dang near anything else) are caused by post-Covid, post-flu, post-vaccinations, post-pick-something.1. Your risk of death or serious complications beyond "ow, that shot hurt!" are typically...

Years ago, I won a mirrored armoire from my job. It's in my bedroom but I rarely stand in front of it. Yesterday, I had to have a dexascan done so I had to change into a gown. There was a full length mirror in the changing room. I'm aware that I gained 5 to 7 pounds over the last year from cheating on Keto but I didn't know what it looked like. It was a reality check.
I'm exhausted and feeling depressed today. It's still raining and now getting warm/humid, and somehow my hands that have visible deformities look perfect on an xray and I have no idea what to do. Mentally, I can't deal with going down a rabbit hole of doctors appointments for a problem that's painful but not keeping me from functioning. Also (*TW*) yesterday was suicide prevention day, or awareness, or something, which is a good thing to raise awareness about, don't get me wrong. But after seeing post after post on social media about how if you're feeling suicidal you should talk to someone, I was bombarded with memories that literally made me want to vomit. I understand talking helps more often than it hurts, but reading about how that's the one thing people should do makes me want to scream "not always! It directly led to the worst experience of my life". I would never encourage anyone to not talk, but hearing that it universally helps is hard for me. Maybe I'm just bitter, idk. I just feel conflicted about wanting awareness so people don't feel like they're broken for having those thoughts, and not wanting to relive my trauma from seeing those posts. I did stay off of social media after that yesterday but the memories were already there.
Anyway, I need to go do work, I've been writing this for almost 45 minutes, hugs to everyone and anyone who may be dealing with an impending hurricane (I think Blue said one was headed her way too), please stay safe
I'm headed out to infectious disease to run whatever test on this Candida crap. I'm a ball of nerves and simply put just scared. My tummy is swollen this morning and my IBS-C is so bad.
I hope everyone has a great day.
Check- in
Pray that everyone has a great day! Prayers to everyone that lives in the path of the hurricane. Pam
Twin, I hope your tests show something they can treat you for.
I'm doing really crappy lately. I've been in a real funk and can't seem to pull myself out of it. I know I need time, but I also need to be better because I need to find a job. It didn't work out with that guy so I'm even more lonely now. Oh well, I think that's all the misery I can share for now. Take care everyone.
Susan
Leo, I think I'd be over preparing also. Our boys have a friend who moved to S.Carolina a few summers ago. And his family is in the target zone under enforced evacuations. So we've been following the news here. And it sounds like volumes of rain as the system is predicted to stall is going to be the kicker. (we're hearing 20-30+ inches).
Stay safe down there, and I've never known a guy to do that stuff in the buff.
I'd set some house rules on that one! No one wants to see bits and pieces!
Miki, I'm sorry yesterday was hard on you. I'm not a talker, but that is what they want you to do. It's their only device to help so to speak.
And I pray that you will one day get to the point where these thoughts don't haunt you anymore. For me, it was choosing not to look at the nasty part, but to remember who was there to help me. Now, looking back at the bad moments I endured, I see mostly that. And just a blip of what was horrific.
Twins, I pray those docs can figure out something to help you with your tummy issues. And your tummy starts to behave for you today too.
Pam, Hope you have a good day today too.
I've got just a minute here, I need to run and get all dollied up for the appointment later this morning. My best friend used to head up the surgery dept up here at the local hospital and shared great reviews about the surgeon we meet with today. So I'm more relaxed. But the panic bug bit me last night. I think my mind is at it's capacity. Anxiety it just a strange beast. I'm calm and then bam, it just hits me.
I better scoot, before I make us late.
Hugs to all!
Sorry you are having such a hard start to the day Miki, hope things get better at work...our past is not who we are now. I try to remember that when I am headed down the rabbit hole. Sending well wishes. xo
Stay safe, Leo. Make that hubby take you to pick up the items you need. I pray the hurricane is not so bad for everyone along the coast. Bear and Susan beware.
Miki, sorry the memories were haunting yesterday. I understand. I’ve been hospitalized 17 times for that. I try not to think of it. Take care.
Twin, I hope all goes well with your tests. Maybe at last you can get some help.
Hello Pam. Have a good day.
Susan, sorry you have been feeling so bad. Maybe try and do something nice for yourself. I like to color, which I’m going to do today. Sorry you feel lonely.
Wonder, sorry about the panic bug. That happened to me last week in the hospital. I had such a nice nurse who helped me through it. I’m glad your hubby has a good surgeon. Praying all goes well.
Angela, I hope you are able to remain calm. I know it’s hard, but you can do it. Take care.
Hi Khadi. I hope your Day is a good one.
I think I’m coming down with a virus or something. I just can’t sleep enough. It’s making me down. I’m going to color to try and feel better.
Not much going on today. Time to get the roast in the crockpot.
Blue, stay safe.
Blue, also stay safe, or at least reasonably dry...
Leo, I remember Isabel... I was stationed at Quantico and it flooded the base chest high, dragged out 3 of our brand new fighter jets to the Potomac river. I also remember 9/11 very well since our platoon had to respond and clean it up. Horrible.
My Prayers for everyone in the path of the hurricane. I'm glad you're prepared, Leo. We stocked up water and canned goods, filled containers up too in case we lose power we'll lose water also. The VA is closed today and maybe tomorrow depends on how things go.
Hurricane Olivia has downgraded to a tropical storm but Maui is directly in it's path and should impact us tonight / tomorrow morning. I'm just glad it's not a hurricane anymore. It's a slow moving storm and is supposed to dump 20 inches of rain starting today through tomorrow.
I'm never going to catch up on sleep at this rate. Last night when I was so tired and ready to crawl into bed, hubby decided that was the perfect time to change linens and mattress cover. Welp, upon flipping our mattress up we discovered mold on the bottom!
We moved here to save lots of money.... but at the cost of losing all of our furniture to wetness, what are we saving? I rolled over in the middle of the night soaking wet from the thick humidity. Then hubby's alarm went off at zero dark thirty and scared the living daylights out of me. And my anxiety has been sending little pangs through my chest. It's pouring rain right now.
Miki, I'm sorry yesterday was a hard day for you. I hope your week improves and you feel better. For me, sometimes just being in good company (instead of having to talk) can make me feel better.
Susan, I'm glad you are safe. I'm sorry your relationship didn't work out... don't worry there will be others who will come along. Where I grew up, it's customary to ask your aunts / uncles to help find you someone lol. Have you thought of that? I pray a job comes your way!
Twins, I hope the results are helpful! I'm sorry about your tummy... I hate it when mine gets like that, it's super uncomfortable. One time while at a picnic, a friend of mine ran up to me and felt my belly asked if we were expecting. Can you believe that?! I never wanted to leave the house that bloated again.
Hi, Pam. Hope all is well with you.
Wonder, I'm glad you have a good surgeon. I know what you mean about that anxiety, ugh. Prayers everything works out according to God's glory. I would send a rainbow your way, but it's pouring here.
Angela, hoping and praying your day turns out OK and the PTSD keeps away!
Khadi, glad you're north of the storm.
Ida, take it easy.
I am remembering all who were lost on 9/11.
Leo I am praying for all who are in the path of the hurricane and those who will be effected by the rains. For those on here be safe
Twins I am praying the doctor will help you. Keep the faith.
Blue stay safe. I am glad you got the supplies you needed.
Wonder take it one step one minute at a time. I am praying for you and your family.
Angela you have a heavy schedule today. I hope you find small times in between appts. to rest.
Miki I hope that the things that haunt you will go quietly into the background. Many hugs.
Susan if that guy didn't work out it is because the right person is waiting on you. I pray you find the right job soon.
If I missed anyone else forgive me.
My pain level the past couple days has been building. Today it is raining and my body is throbbing like a bad tooth ache. I am so thrilled that it is raining as we haven't had rain in over two months. I am doing a load of laundry this morning because I needed to.
I hope you all have a day with hope.
I’m really hoping the doctor from today can help me. She seemed very smart and nice, but she doesn’t believe in Holistic medicine and is definitely by the book, not necessarily encouraging, but did seem helpful and like she had some things up her sleeves. She immediately diagnosed my scleroderma by looking at my hands. I’m waiting on a blood test kit from the lab and then I can get my lab work done, she ordered a lot and then I wait 10 days to hear more. I couldn't believe all Lapcorps are out of this text kit in Oklahoma. She said if everything is negative she will tell Dr. Webb that I need IVIG for my neuropathy and Scleroderma asap. She said Scleroderma is probably causing my GI problems and GERD, shortness of breath, pain and weakness in my muscles, and my neuropathy. Wow, it's crazy that an infectious disease doctor can help more more than a rheumy and neuro by looking at my hands. And I was diagnosed with Scleroderma from my rheumy, but he never mentioned it again and only mentions the Lupus, which she also thinks I have.
miki, I wonder if you have scleroderma, you might look it up.
Sorry I can't reply to all, I'm behind at work and I really want to go home. :-)
