For my migraines, I take 75mg of Zonisamide 2x per day to prevent them... Not real confident that it's working. And give myself Imitrex injections the minute one starts coming on, which is at least twice a week.
I've done Botox injections for migraines in the past (every 3 months) and it helped tremendously. I'm going to see if I can try it again.

I could not tolerate the Nortriptyline. I took it shortly after my accident and I would get horrendous nightmares and would stay awake for 2-3 days until I crashed.
There is also Amitryptine, this one I broke out in hives from.
I've failed miserably on many medications in the past. And due to the increased volume of hives I break out into from them, I often wonder if it's not because of the mental side of fear of the medication.
I thought I was having a stroke after trying 1 Lyrica pill. The doctor called it Dystonia, but after that 1 pill...I now have several other problems. I could be completely off base with that concept, but I am now (based on the hives I get) am allergic to more meds than not.
It could be chemical sensitivity too, I just don't know.
So I understand your fear of trying new medications.
I wish I knew the answers here to share with you. But you have my support. As for the jerk doc...fire him! Or go for second opinion. It is true that many docs are reading that Narcotics apparently don't help chronic pain patients. But if they honestly buy into that, they are fooling themselves. For every article out there sharing this false information there is one article sharing how it does help.
