Fibromyalgia Support Group
You're not alone in your pain. Fibromyalgia is a condition that can be difficult to diagnose and manage. If you're trying to cope with pain throughout your body, sleep problems, general fatigue, or other common fibromyalgia symptoms, you're in the right place. The community is here for you to talk about therapies and share your challenges.
After suffering with a feeling like I am constantly exerting my muscles with a lack of oxygen, I became interesting in hyperbaric treatment. I quickly got a negative response from my doctor (I know, no surprise right?) with the whole panaply of reasons why NOT. I just ran across an exciting article you might be interested to read. The results are really exciting.

IT ATE ANOTHER ONEHow can we get support if the dang site won't let us post?!Off to let tech support have my opinion. ARGH.May you have a Monday as merry as my cat with a skink. Trust me, that's happier than it sounds !

No control group.
Study begun with no-longer-in-effect diagnostic criteria.
Assumption of quantitative analysis of pain at tender point. (?! There's a scan tha t says, "Yep, that's a four"?! No, there's not. They went off patient responses.)
How are the patients doing since the study? Without regular HBOT? What about long-term relapse? Or even mid-term (say, 2-5 years down the line)?
A portion of the patients saw that their problems *worsened*.
Oxygenation can speed healing of damaged tissues. We've known this a long time.
While you can't have a placebo effect from oxygen administration, you *can* get one from the idea that going into HBOT will fix you, so I'd like to see a study that uses the chamber *sans* oxygen, and see how those results measure up.
This is suggestive, but not yet replicated with study flaws amended (e.g., lack of true control group in double-blind, reliance on patient reports). Also, who can afford hyperbaric?! My insurers would never cover it unless I had teh "bends" or something acute like that.
I'm glad they're studying pressurized oxygen effects on brains, but I'm not going to run out and beg for a session or ten in a hyperbaric chamber until I see that I'm not back where I started a year or two later. How long does the effect *last*?
Lots of questions to answer, and I'll jump aboard when I see better science, studying for this factor.
