Today in history: Hawaii's first tornado watch ever was issued. Today. 2026. At this rate, heat warnings for Alaska and freeze warnings for Louisiana are not to be ruled out at any given moment.
Fun fact: You can learn to see where landslides are likely. I leraned as a kid from gramps and grandpa, who learned from their ancestors. Basically, once you recognize former slumps and slides from a valley's side (or ravine or gully or whateber), you never UNsee that evidence. The other trick is to look for signs of old mudflows and debris floods ---- mini versions of what happened in Nepal. Once you see that, you know where NOT to camp, build a house, etc. The bad part is, I can't explain it. This video is the best I could find. So why did people build where they did in Nepal? Simple. It's all vertical. Where else? Either the river bench (the flat region where the river has cut, by flood, through the region) or above it. And the safest angle of repose (the not-going-anywhere angle) varies on rock type, rock layers under the top layer, all that. it gets crazy.
Next time you walk in a hilly region, look at the bumps and lumps. Wonder what formed them. Find out what did if you can. Glacial deposits make hills in weird places, but don't build on 'em --- that's literally unstable AF stuff, like building on a landfill of mixed whatebvers.
How to know if you're in the territory prone to the big slides? Simple. Heavy tropical rainfall (Anywhere in the tropics) and/or earthquakes. The plates bump and grind and stuff falls down. We tend to think of Hollywood-esque abysses opening, but it's just as likely if not more likely you'll see a rock layer give up the ghost and everything atop it surrenders to gravity (as in the undersea landslide in the Boxing Day Quake/Tsunami so long ago now).

I can get quiet and clarity when I go to _____________.
It's been a long couple days. Yesterday morning my phone died..which is not shocking because it was over 4 years old, but definitely inconvenient. Luckily the store was open and I was there pretty early to do that. They actually were accepting the model of my old phone in any condition as a trade in for ,$500 off the new one. I almost laughed because it was unusable and old enough to be practically obsolete, but I'm not complaining. And at least it happened on a day I had off. The new phone is very nice, too.
Miki had her ultrasound this morning, and the staff loved her. Apparently even the doctor, who isn't usually a fan of cattle dogs (I'm not shocked, a lot of my coworkers think I'm a little crazy for loving them). She really is a sweet dog, and not in a way that knocks you over lol. I still haven't seen the report come through, but they didn't aspirate anything, which is promising for not finding anything concerning. It's possible they found something that for whatever reason couldn't be aspirated safely, so I can't say for sure, I just know by the price they didn't do anything additional. So..fingers crossed. Now I just need to get the incision to fully heal so I can start her on meds (the steroids will slow down wound healing which I don't want, obviously).
My sister just got power back from the storm (sort of) late yesterday. DTE managed to rip the wires connecting the power to the house. They ripped the connection right off of the house. My sister has been told that *they* have to bring in and pay for an electrician to fix it. I think that's crazy. DTE did it and they should either fix it or pay for it. The mess that DTE left in the back yard is epic. I suggested that she take a bunch of pictures to document everything. Right now they have some sort of jerry rigged system. And, they still need the cable company to come out for the Internet which could be a while. I brought over my high gain antenna so they could at least watch some TV.
I worked and ran a couple of errands. Tomorrow is going to be busier. Not a fan. I picked up another job and need to do something additional for another client.
My brother got his hiking poles out and did 2 laps going down the driveway and across the street. Her said that it was pretty difficult. He saw his PCP today for a recheck. I need to call him to see what she had to say.

Miki - Getting a new phone is always a nice thing except for the cost. I hope that Miki gets an OK report. Fingers crossed.
Time to put fresh sheet on the bed. I feel a nap coming on.... Waves!
