I had both my knees replaced. I have fallen once in the bath, I've lost balance, toppled into things, Knocked my knees. All so very painful that it makes me scream in pain. And it does flare everything up. And I'm 3 yrs in after surgery. Still sensitive in spots.
It may feel you have done something to the knee at first because everything is throbbing. And it can be a bit scary.
You gotta give it sometime with ice and rest unless you can't bend knee or move it at all or walk at all. Then I would go to ER or see your Ortho doc but hopefully you didn't do any damage and you won't have to do that.
And I know with falling we use other body parts to brace ourselves, shoulders and wrists especially. And they can get injured too. So Ice up and rest those parts.
I hope things ease up soon. Try not to do too much though I know you have doggies and a person to take care of. Rest in between.
Healing wishes,
Leo
I have an old expression that I'm very fond of: "If two people tell you you look sick, lay down." Well, two people here mentioned a cane. I realized that it would have prevented the fall I took. I think I'll start using it more often.
This place is very helpful :)
The pain unfortunately is one of those things with falling. It can take days for the flare to ease up .
I hope it continues to calm down and heal.
I used the cane every day prior to surgery. Now I don't use it hardly at all but I have on occasion. I still lean on shopping carts at every opportunity I can when I'm out in a Store not just for my knees but my back hurts like crazy as well.
The time I lose balance is if I've stepped at an awkward angle. It's like my knees have to be facing straight ahead now when I walk. I can't really pivot at the hips without it causing unbalance. I forget sometimes and it hurts my knees too if I've moved at an odd angle. I'm sure you guys with TKR's know what I mean.
Anyway take care and I hope things get better each day.
