My 15 year old daughter,C., can be a handful. She is my yougest child, and the only one still living at home. As my husband's job is very demanding, and I stay at home, the daily grind of parenting C. is one of my tasks. Besides my husband, the only other person aware of my condition is C. I know that it's unfair to expect her to truly understand my pain, after all, she is only 15, and she needs her Mom very much. We share many interests, shopping, art, photography, music...but over the last 2 years, I've drastically cut back on my activities, due to severe and chronic fatigue, and pain. Factor in the loss of my income, and it's impact on the fun things that C. and I used to do.
As soon as I was diagnosed with FM, C. was involved, absorbing information little by little. I do not want this time in her life to be about my difficulties, but I have told her that I have different abilities now, and that there are things I can't do every day. To make matters worse, at the time of my diagnosis, C. was having a lot of trouble at school and at home. She decided to stay with her father ( my ex), but this turned out very badly, and was a big disappointment for C.
I am doing the best I can for C. But is it enough? How can I help her to become a self-reliant and confident young woman? The more I tell her about my limits, the more clingy she becomes. Many days I am so exhausted, and "foggy", and driving C. to after school events, the library, checking on homework is extremely difficult. This spring, my symptoms are worse than ever, and some days I wonder if my health will continue to go down because of FM. Several days of the week, I am in bed. Until the phone rings...and C. needs to be picked up, library books are late, sudden assignment is due. A movie, can I go Mom? I am so, so tired, but I need to be a Mom...

We will go to the movie rental place and rent thecheaper movies and do popcorn at home, movie night. It is fairly in exspensive and easier on me than going to movie theater. We also will do game night limiting it to an hour. Cards, yahtzee or a board game.
Make sure on days when u are feeling good you verbalize that too.
I have two boys age 20 and 17. My 20 year old boy has begun to develop empathy for others. Surprisingly, my 17 year old has developed more empathy than my eldest. He is more mature in many ways. The world is less about him and more about the people around him. He can understand why I can't do things or why things are different. He is more likely to help rather than complain about how things are effecting him. My eldest is beginning to see this but he has a way to go still.
You daughter will begin to empathize with you as she develops maturity. She will become more independent and self reliant. She will soon understand your illness and how she is connected. Unfortunately, I have seen adults who are still in the world is about me stage. I'm sure she will be there soon.
