Hey all, just wanted to say after my post yesterday: I know we all have strong feelings, and I was sharing my personal feelings and anxiety about the outcome. I tried to keep it to that in an effort not to create arguments or turn this into a political board, and I'm sorry if I failed at that. Not trying to come at anyone who feels differently or create a hostile environment, and I'm gonna move forward with non-political topics.
If anyone can spare some good thoughts and energy, or prayers if you're inclined, my coworker's 92 year old father went to the ER Sunday, and he's declined quickly since then. The doctors have told her to prepare herself that he's not likely to come home. He's got some serious health issues, but had been stable until this weekend, so this was unexpected.
On to lighter topics...I caught Karrik trying to break into a wooden box on my counter, which is there because he tries to steal anything that isn't nailed down (it has meds in it and pill wrap, but he's been known to somehow open pill bottles so I have to make those inaccessible)..there's a small bungee cord on it to keep him from opening it, because he's done that too.
The amount of changes I've made to keep this cat from causing trouble is, to some, a bit crazy. And I've had cats who were into everything before-I wasn't in the habit of just leaving things out in the open. Here's what I can think of off the top of my head:
The wooden box has been there for years, but the bungee cord holding it closed is new
There's a small cabinet on my countertop that has dry food, treats and can covers after buying more several times...if I ever move, I'll probably find like 10 can covers stashed somewhere. Oh and it also has the little spatulas I used to feed them and oral syringes, because he likes those too(see below)

I bought a new trash can and recycling bin for my kitchen, because he started opening the tilt out trash and recycling cans I had. There's also a weight on the recycling bin to keep him from opening that.
I now keep all my snacks I bring to work in a plastic container in my tote bag, because he was fishing protein bars out
I keep any cat food pouches/Sheba tubs in a secured area after he pulled a Sheba tub out of a box and ate through the foil to get to the food, which really upset his stomach
I trained him to eat in a bin that opens from the side (which has air holes in it obviously), and he has to go in there before I even open a can
I put him in my bedroom when I get my meds ready for the week so he doesn't steal them or throw pills around the house
I also now put him in the bedroom when I empty the dishwasher, because he will climb in there and steal stuff, or jump down from the counter onto the open door..last thing I need is another broken appliance
There's definitely more, but you get the idea. He's a smart little fucker, but he's also insanely sweet and adorable, luckily for him.

Welcome to the Perseid meteor showers, the "biggies" usually every year. (The Leonids beat 'em one year IMHO).AND today much of the northern hemisphere will see 5 to 99% solar eclipse. How cool is that? Your best bet is to be in the UK or norhtern Spain, where totality is excellent before sundown. Me, I'll get a super duper tiny itty bitty slice of it, so little that it won't be noticeable. New...

As for Karrick, rename him.Kaos?

Miki - Karrick is quite the little burglar! I had a tuxedo years ago. He was very smart. I’m sorry to hear about your coworkers Dad.
Leo - I hope that you are having a grand time!
Unseasonably warm here again today - 75 degrees last I checked.
Going home shortly. I have to come back at dinner time. My sister has a late meeting. Mom won’t eat unless someone is here. The infection/meds are messing with her taste buds.
Waves!
