Tapering up on GABA and side effects

I've read a lot of the GABA posts, but still have a question. I was taking 300 mg four times a day, and have increased three of four doses up to 600mg. It's aweful. I'm anxious groggy to the point I have to lay down all day. It's been three days. Doc says it will get better... Really? What are your experiences getting to a workable dose. Thx

Ugh! If someone wanted to give me GABA again, I'd RUN! I couldn't tolerate the lethargic, lazy-eyed stupor, and that was before I fell asleep. Of course things progressed to being so dizzy I couldn't walk across the room, and wanting to sleep allllll dayyyy looooonnng before I said 'Forget this!' I'm sorry I can't be more positive, but for me IT TRULY SUCKED! Ok, I'll try to contain myself again. I hope your trial is better than mine. I've lost patience with all of these mystery drugs. If I was you I'd be saying 'Next!' right now, but that's me. It could work out for you, but I think you'll know when enough's enough. Good luck!

Bbre I dont think its a mystery drug if you have epilepsy, since it is for seizures.

I dont know why a rheumy would prescribed it. I would google it and read about it and find out everything you can. Also ask the pharmacist they are the ones that know all about the meds.

Just seems like you are taking alot of it.

Hi Magicpill, I don't have epilepsy, and before the newest ''hot'' fibro meds came out I was given a lot of different drugs that in off-label use ''might help''. This one was prescribed by a Neurologist. It was always a ''mystery'' back then what kind of side effect I'd have. That's where the contempt and sarcasm came from, I felt like a human guinea pig.

Thanks all for your responses. I am trying my current dose for a couple more days to see if the current loopy feeling goes away. My bet is that it won't. I see Rheume on Wed and will ask to quit. I hope he has another answer besides anti depressants as I've tried over four different kinds to help my general anxiety disorder and all the did for me was gain over 60 pounds that I struggled for a year to get off and now I have constant weight problems I never use to have.

Evag515.....have you ever taken Wellbutrin XL? I'd been on about 8 different antidepressants, all with unmanagable side effects, until Wellbutrin. In fact, for me it gives me a lift instead of drowsiness. It has definitely helped with the fatigue on days where all I want to do is stay in bed or lounge on the sofa. If I forget to take it by mid-day tho, my insomnia is worse. It's even help me take off 30 lbs. I had gained while sifting through the other meds. It may work for you, possibly not, but it's worth a try if antidepr are in the plan. Again, good luck! I hope you find the right med mix to help you along.
