well I don't have sleeping spells anymore ,but when I first got fibro @ 26 I was so fatigued.Now my anxiety is so bad I take 4 2mg xanax a day and four pain pills,plus 2 antidepressants and usually never take a nap,may laydown bc of the pain,but I don't normally fall asleep.but when bedtime comes I sleep for hrs.

I get those sleepy spells all the time. It is beyond regular sleepy. I can fall asleep almost immediately and sleep like I am in a coma for 3 hours. When the spell comes on, there is no stopping it. I just have to sleep.

@horseluvnhoosier - That is exacly it. I can lay down on the floor and just pass out!

LOL Randy...I am with ya. The first time I fell asleep sitting up I was shocked that was even possible for me...then, I fell asleep leaning against the wall AT THE MALL...I just couldn't hold myself up anymore and needed the wall to help hold me up. My friends, at that time, didn't believe me that I just couldn't do the shopping thing....I use to be a professional shopper...but then again...I used to be able to earn the money to do it. I am now VERY afraid of sleep. That is when I have to wake up, and feel the pain.

Hey randy!Nice to meet you.I do go through that at times.I've learned over the years to give in to it.Roaming around in a total fog,achey all over and sometimes I feel like I have a fever,get the chills when really tired.I just take a nap.Sometimes I get pissed at myself for wasting time resting but in that state I can't do anything anyway, so I might just as well take a rest.

Just wondering if you have had a sleep study done ? Some people have sleep apena or narcolepsy problems..? Hard to tell sometimes cause FM causes much fatigue in and of itself.

Oh my, yes, I do this. When I first started doing this, I would almost fall asleep on students. I work at home and teach English to students over the phone a few hours a week. Now I make sure I have something to keep my hands occupied so I don't do this. When I feel like this, I just give in and go to bed. I don't even hear the phone when I sleep like that.

Isn't it frustrating that we feel like that duringi the day, and then can't sleep at night?

i get it too & sometimes can sleep the whole day/night away for 3days! yet wake up & pass back out! like i have been drugged yet not restful @ all feel like i have not sleep the 3days! it is very over welming i have to get in bed or i would sleep where ever! & iam not like that=have never been able to sleep in a chair/the coach or w/ TV on! my girls know when iam really sick if they come over & iam passed out on coach w.tv blaring & doors are unlocked! really scares me!

@ Emerald5usa No I have not had a sleep study done and thanks for the link about narcolepsy. Very interesting reading.

@sandyclause - I know what you mean when you say that you enter a sleep where even the phone ringing will not wake you. To me it is really an unnatural kind of sleep, kind of like being slipped a micky or some drug to knock you out. And yes it is frustrating because I also go through periods where I cannot sleep from 24 hours or more at times. Go figure?

@ misunshine - Yes I have too experienced an extended period of sleeping for a couple of days just as you described. One time I passed out in the evening and woke up the next morning to find I had left the back door wide open. Yeah, I hear ya BIG TIME.

Misunshine and Randy And R Please tell me that you know hwy this happens ???!!!! I too sleep for days only waking for 10 minutes or so then I have to go back to bed. And it seems that I have not slept at all when I come out of it. I have been trying to take Synthroid to bring my levels back up to normal. But when ever I take it this happens my Doc says it should have the opposite effect more energy !!! not!!! Fibro sucks in so many ways

I've been in the midst of this sleeping situation for several months. We (people with Fibro) rarely get restorative sleep and frequently miss that important stage of the sleep cycle.

I think the missing sleep becomes cumulative and then additional stress or sickness just sends us over the edge. The sleep/coma starts. Thank God for my little dog who has an uncanny sense of his eating and med times (which correspond with mine). Otherwise I'm sure I'd sleep the vast majority of each day.

This sleep-all-the-time deal seems to be coming to an end - because I'm reducing my Ultram and suffering some withdrawal. I'm still not getting restorative sleep (my language, math, thinking abilities are superbly craptacular in the early to mid-morning). But, at least I don't have to worry about falling asleep after taking a drink but, before swallowing the water. As I said in another post, I can do without the sensation of drowning in bed.

I do that when I'm in a flare.....the only thing that really helps at those times is sleep, and lots of it....It's like I cannot keep my eyes open, and I've learned not to fight it when I'm like that!

Most of the time now, I can get by with a short nap once or twice a week, and get a good 8 hrs a night of sleep with either Flexeril or Benadryl....seems to be working, at least for the moment!

Yes, I do too. I have difficulty keeping my eyes open even at work. So scared I'm going to do this at my new job since I've done this in the past at work. It just comes on so quickly. I have had to take a pill for sleep cause I had problems staying asleep at nights then was tired all day. Now even though I sleep very well, I still have this problem.
