I have not taken Rozarem before, but from what I understand it is different from other sleep meds that fall in the classes of Benzodiazipines, Hypnotics, or meds that effect the CNS. If I remember, Roazarem is not habit forming and it is not a controlled substance like most other sleeping meds.
Don't quote me on this as I am writing from memory but I believe it somehow stimulates the Melatonin receptors in the brain, making them more active, or produce more melatonin, or somehow by stimulating the melatonin receptors, healthy refreshing sleep is induced because of the increase or stimulation of the melatonin.
You'll have to look up the Why's and How's there, but I am 99% sure this med dose promote sleep by stimulating the melatonin receptors in the brain..
Hope this helps, and would love to hear your experience with this if you choose to take it.

It does work for getting to sleep (I get insomnia), and also getting a full night's sleep. The only thing is, I do seem to sleep longer and feel sleepy the next day. So when I need to take it, I take half a dose now. It is, like the girls said, have something to do with having melatonin or making melatonin. My doc said that we have less melatonin as we age.
Hope that helps. JP
I got a little curious, as so many sleep meds are short acting so I did a little reading on Rozarem.
Rozarem is in a drug class called Melatonin Receptor Agonist which is not a Benzo, Hypnotic, or Med that effects the CNS.
It is supposed to help you fall asleep and stay asleep all night, so make sure you give yourself a good 8 hours set aside for sleep...since it is long acting that may be why JP feels sleepy the next day.
Here is a link to the Rozarem website...it may give you a little more info. It sounds like a good alternative to some of the more habit forming meds, and I look forward to hearing your experience :)

The cool thing about this sleep med, is that since it is not habit forming, you could use it for 2 weeks straight, then not use it one night, with now withdrawals or tapering...
Because of the class this drug belongs to, it gives the freedom of stopping, starting, and using whenever you need it without physical dependency which is a definite plus.
As opposed to my sleep med, I can take between 1 and 3 tabs every night depending on how I feel, but I can't not take any without tapering off..so Rozarem offers a lot of freedom in this respect :)
Over the years, several reports from Dr's to the FDA, have shown that Ambien appears to have a longer half life and a significant amount of people are experiencing hyper somnia while on Ambien.
Based on this new info, the new standard dose of Ambien has been reduced from 10mg to 5mg.
Sometime, I of course am not a Dr, but Roazarem seems to be a long acting med, so if you need something to augment it, out of the three meds you mentioned, Trazadone and Ambien are also have long half lives, so you may experience the 'Hang Over' effect JPTexas has described, Valium on the other hand has a very short half life and may be just enough to give you that extra push into a good night's sleep and be able to wake up alert vs groggy.
Again, I am no medical professional, so these things should be discussed with your MD.
All the best, and please keep us posted on your experiences with this med...it seems many here, myself as well, are interested, in this no habit forming sleep aid :)

One other thing about ambien. When I took it, it really knocked me out so it was awesome for bad insomnia. But, the type of hangover was like, what, where am I? when I woke up. The effect did fade but it felt like a true hangover for me. The Rozerem had the effect of making me sleepy unless I got a good 10, maybe even 11 hours of sleep, but not the yukky hangover effect like the Ambien.
OK, if I didn't just beat the heck out of that dead horse, I don't know who else can :-0
