I've had three root canals and every one of them was an unmitigated disaster. Reactions to medication, infection including sinus infections that went on for over a month. I was so sick after the last one, my dentist would prefer that the tooth was pulled and replaced then put me through it again.

Just make sure that you follow your care instructions to the letter. If the new antibiotic doesn't seem to be working call immediately. Plan on a longer recovery time as having Fibromyalgia seems to aggravate any medical procedures.

I've had 2 root canals. The most recent one being last year and oral surgery was done in addition a month later. Mine was a front tooth and upper tooth as well. I had nasal pain, jaw pain (tmj), lip pain and cheek pain for weeks. The tooth itself and the teeth around it hurt too. Try cold packs for the swelling and switch out with heat packs on the areas you feel TMJ (if you have that). Fantod has some good advice.

When I had oral surgery a month later, my tooth and gums were sensitive for months afterwards. The endodontist said my jaw bone was still healing but pain was amplified by fibro. He also told me the pain will last longer because of fibro. He was right. A year later and sometimes when I bite down on that tooth I still feel it. Perhaps sensitive scar tissue.

I have had three of them and got a raging infection with two of them. One caused a sinus infection and it took 6 weeks of antibiotics to get it under control. My heart hurts for you. Take good care and if the meds don't work quickly you need to get in to see the doctor.

I've had two of them since my fibro dx. And the one went perfectly. Front upper. I woke up to my lip swollen one morning, called the dentist and I had the root canal done quickly. Could not have gone better.

The one before that though? Upper back molar, (my wisdom teeth were crushing it) And there was not enough novicaine in the world to help with that procedure. I never had any further infection, but I had tears upon tear rolling down my cheeks due to the pain.

And now I think I'm looking at another one soon. So it's a crap shoot on how that one will go. I also need to have my front crown redone. And I'm dreading that one. As last time they were talking implants and you need to wait 3 months for the jaw to heal before they can snap on any tooth. Not looking forward to having no front teeth and only posts in front for 3 months!!
