I've never heard of a connection.

Hi, ShelaBug, I had pneumonia - almost died when I was 7. I think that is when my fibro started. I believe there is a connection and I think yours could be too. I've heard them say a "trauma" can cause fibro - I would say rheumatic fever would be a trauma.

My rheum. said that any major illness can be a pre-cursor to fibro, especially if you've had many and/or injuries and/or emotional trauma too. A while before I started feeling all fibro-y, I had mono, then strep, then 2-3 weeks after woke up all swollen & unable to get out of bed. The doc said post strep arthritis, but my Rheum. is questioning if it was actually rheum. fever, because the symptoms fit both, and actually r.fever more. She was very interested to see the mono spot & the illnesses after, and it did play a part in my diagnosis, even if it wasn't the technical cause.

Don't know if there is a connection. I also had Rheumatice fever when 4 years old and took alot of penecillin afterward which might have messed my gut up and prediposed me to it. Who knows.

I had Appendicitis and Rheumatic Fever when I was 11, I spent almost two weeks in the hospital and was getting Penicillin shots about every six hours. I joked with the Nuns telling them it was like being given shots of Elmer's Glue. My poor butt looked worse than a pin cushion and some of the medicine bubbled to the surface leaving nasty bumps that stayed for a long time.

After that, as I entered my teens, it seems like I always had Strep Throat. Later on, I had Walking Pneumonia in the middle of the summers for quite a few years.

If it wasn't one thing, it was another. I got married at 17 and my then hubby broke my back in two places beating me. I was his regular punching bag and that went on and off for five years.

I've also had Mumps, Measles and Rubella.

Is any of this connected to Fibromyalgia?

i am so glad to have found someone else who may have a connection. i always thought i had arthritis pain after rheumatic fever but now asking for xrays and finding no arthritis??? i was stunned. i wake up in pain every day. i never believed in fibromyalgia but i fear i may live to regret my attitude.

I have been wondering about this for a long time now... I had RF about 3 years ago & have been having health issues ever since. Now I've got FM. My dr said there's no connection but I don't think they know much about FM anyhow so I don't really trust her opinion. I just don't know...

Any form of trauma can start the ball rolling down the Fibromyalgia pathway. With me it was an attack of Epstein-Barr Virus. Seems like Epstein-Barr is often implicated in starting fibromyalgia. But in 17 years of reading everything I can get my hands on about fibromyalgia- never Rheumatic fever that I've read. But like I said, any trauma can do it

Yep, I got it because I had strep throat and didn't realize it. My day care kids bring in so many different viruses. I did get a sore throat but I had a cold so I didn't think it was strep. I woke up one morning and felt like I was dying. Fever of 105, all my joints swollen huge. I hurt SO bad all over. I was hospitalized & it was a good thing we got me treated quickly because I didn't have damage to my heart valves. I thank God for that!!!

I had RF as a child 4 yrs, and Mono 17 yrs. I have often wondered if there is a connection because the fibro pain that I suffer in my right leg is exactly what I remember of the RF. I also have mitral valve prolapse, but it's very mild. I took penicilin for years, I was told I would sickly and weak, but wasn't. I actually became very physically fit and athletic which didn't change until my late thirties when I developed the fibromyalgia after a car accident.

When I had the RF I couldn't walk, and it was worse on my right side which is always worse and weaker now.

So I would be very interested to know about other people that feel there might be a connection?
