I didn't mention on check in this morning...therapy really got to me yesterday. She told me that she seems to be doing all the work and she doesn't feel like I'm putting in much effort. A lot of the time she expects me to direct our sessions in terms of what I want to work on. If there is something going on that I want to discuss I definitely bring it up, but otherwise I figure the professional is more qualified than me to determine what I should work on and in which order. When I started I did tell her my goals and what issues I wanted to address, and in the course of talking we figured out others. Lately we seem to be jumping around and not really focusing on anything in depth. I'll also fully admit that I've been so tired and overwhelmed with life lately that I'm kind of shutting down, I can't put as much effort into it. She is aware of that. Other issues include the fact that I have a lot of expenses right now and $80/month could go a long way, and often I'm running myself into the ground to get there and usually my body needs the rest, and no one can really figure out *why* I'm depressed in the first place. I've been this way most of my life now and I'm losing hope that it's going to get any better than it's been the past couple years and her saying I need to put in more effort made me feel terrible. Not sure what to do and whether it's worth continuing at this point. Any thoughts or ideas would be welcomed and appreciated.

Welcome to the Perseid meteor showers, the "biggies" usually every year. (The Leonids beat 'em one year IMHO).AND today much of the northern hemisphere will see 5 to 99% solar eclipse. How cool is that? Your best bet is to be in the UK or norhtern Spain, where totality is excellent before sundown. Me, I'll get a super duper tiny itty bitty slice of it, so little that it won't be noticeable. New...

Honestly, if I look back a year or two or five to when I began therapy? I can see I made tons of progress. So can the therapist. But...
Why do you need a "why" to be depressed? you're in pain and life can be overwhelming. It's possibly chemical. I mean, hello? That worries me, that a therapist would even say that. Outside the context of "Let's talk through all possibilities based on what you've told me," that is.
Take a break, maybe find a different therapist. If you're not getting anywhere, it may not be *you*.THat's all I can think to offer.
Supportive purrs.
I personally like it when they try to get to the bottom of how things are and finding patterns, and ways for me to work through them. It seems better when they actually teach me ways to deal and how to treat myself. One important thing I have learned is to tell myself positive things everyday. It sounds ridiculous, but truly makes a difference. I have to empower myself often. Like last night I wanted to give up with the lice, instead I said I've got this I'm going to tackle this fast and we aren't going to spread it. I still feel rundown and like everything is constantly taking me down, I suffer from depression too, but I'm still standing. I may be tired but nothing can take me down.
I'm praying you find somebody better. The therapist honestly doesn't sound very good to me. Hang in there and you will find somebody, it just may require some searching.
It is true that you need to bring up the content that is bothering you. However, she needs to know when you are overwhelmed and in need of support, so tell her. Of course, it's always ok to let go of this one and seek another.
I don't know much about you, but I suffer from FM, UCTD, and depression.
These are all life altering illnesses. I guess that I would consider telling your therapist how her comments made you feel.
Maybe you could suggest that she provide some education on various skills at each session vs. putting the whole load on you. Having worked in the field, there are those therapists who just come to session and look to you to
talk and carry the session and those who take responsibility for providing some direction when needed. What does she mean by work? What work is she expecting to do? Do you have a treatment plan? If you do, maybe it's time to review it. If now maybe the two of you should set goals collaboratively. It may help at the end of each session to talk about what you will focus on the next time that you meet. Hope that you are able to have a conversation with your therapist that helps to clarify her comment. If it doesn't help and she continues make comments that are not helpful or productive, you may want to tell her that the therapy is not working for you and either ask her for a referral or find a new therapist on your own. Good Luck.
