As some may remember, I stopped taking opioids awhile back. Well, two weeks ago I broke down & saw a new doctor who prescribed me Percocet. I was really disappointed in myself, but I was in so much pain that I felt I had no choice. The prescription was significantly less than what I was used to taking- 7.5 mg once per day instead of four times per day. It wasn't helping, so I took it upon myself to take two per day... I made a follow- up appointment which happened today. The doctor was surprisingly very understanding & came up with a plan to switch from Gabapentin to Lyrica & an anti-inflammatory I've never heard of. She also gave me my Percocet prescription even though I ran out early. I dropped it off at the pharmacy & they're refusing to fill it because I filled the same prescription on the 11th, so it's "too early." The doctor's office is closed now, so I'm sitting here, full of anxiety, wondering if she will help me when I call tomorrow or if she misunderstood me when I told her I was out. I'm fearful that I won't get my prescription tomorrow & will have to go through withdrawals all over again. I can't do it. I can't handle it. Has this (doctor vs. pharmacy confusion) happened to anybody? What do you think will happen? Honestly?

I doubt you are going to have any big withdrawal from 2 percocets for a short time. I used to take codiene for migraines when imitrex stopped working for me, so sometimes my migraines were not on schedule. I just went off of Tylenol until I could get it refilled. Sometimes I would hurt more for 3 days and need a pill for diarrhea. I just didn't feel like it was worth it to make a fuss. And since this is a new doctor, I would especially not to make a fuss. I think you will be fine.

I thought the doc told me to fill it today, which is why I was so confused when the pharmacy wouldn't fill it. I know I will have withdrawals as it has happened before on that dosage. I meant to ask what people think will happen with the doctor vs. pharmacy thing.

I don't think you will get it filled unless there is a dose change. If the doctor increased how many times a day you should take it, then the pharmacy might consider, otherwise you have to wait b/c the prescription is for 30 days. Sorry

I agree with twinmom. The dosage from 1 to 2 has to change, I believe. Courtney, I hope you get what you need. I know you have a lot of anxiety at work and a little less pain might help with that. Take care.

I know I have VA healthcare and not private healthcare, but it's the same problem. The pharmacy refuses to fill it unless the doc changes the dosage or writes "new" instructions. I really hope the doc comes through for you! Hugs

I agree with everyone. Did you look at the prescription and see if there was a Do Not Fill Until date on it ? Just becasue your doctor gave you the prescription today doesn't mean you can get it filled. If the last presription should have lasted 30 days and there was no dosage change on the new one, you won't be able to get it filled untili the 30 days or a day or two before. You can ask about paying cash for it, but this really isn't a good thing to do.

If you have only been taking two a day and maybe three on some days for the past few weeks, you shouldn't have any problems with withdrawals. You may or may not notice the pain more, but that is it. Your doctor may or may not increase the percocet in the future. But, don't count on it.

If you do have any problems, look at the Lyrica and anti-inflammatory.

    Years ago, I won a mirrored armoire from my job.  It's in my bedroom but I rarely stand in front of it.  Yesterday, I had to have a dexascan done so I had to change into a gown.  There was a full length mirror in the changing room.  I'm aware that I gained 5 to 7 pounds over the last year from cheating on Keto but I didn't know what it looked like.  It was a reality check.
