I'm so sorry you had to hear this - sounds to me like she's just trying to scare you. I don't know anything about a shortage, and believe me I try to keep up with that stuff. I know if my Vicodin suddenly disappeared my quality of life would go downhill fast.

I don't take much and don't take it often, but for the times when I need to be physically active it makes that possible without agonizing pain, so that I can actually have some FUN!

I'll bet she doesn't have much fun in her life - and probably doesn't need birth control either :)

not only do pharmacies insult us but did u know first, your ins will write doc a letter of what narcs you take and how muchu might change pharmacies often but bypass them the meds are followed closest by their product.i was appalled when your same situation happened to me when the regular guy on vacation, quite unexpected the "pro" announced, singled, me out of a crowd but in this small town everyone would soon know i am a drug addict. i should have filed suit against her thru hippa, but i did not think quickly enough. she lost her job, but now there is a letter in my file from pharmacy,to each of my dr, and even of late i read a letter from my insurance company about my meds. the knowlede is available to all drs. who are on the "certified board". our medical records are shared with many, many others. when i read that letter i was fit to ne tied, i am not a child for them to "watch". but when i read that letter i knew even his staff can read all that, and i go to church with some of them,everyone thinks i am a dope addict cause i take loritab and oxy. the combination of these meds have allowed me to get, up and even clean my nasty house (on the short term).i trust my drs. but now i find a combo i fear they may try to pull it. i mean scared, these meds got me out of bed, and do so many small things. i will fight if they try to take mine away.we need to have a voice.

I work in a pharmacy and I havn't heard anything about a shortage. Now if you were on any dosage of generic toprol XL then you'd be screwed.

wagwoof,, are you saying the pharmacist did not violate anything by asking 'just why' she needed to take so much for pain? I could be missunderstanding your post but I've never been asked a thing about why I needed to take anything at a pharmacy....?

Good morning, all. Well, I called the pharmacy I usually go to, just a few minutes ago. I talked to the head pharmacist. He, too said that they ARE having problems with the regular hydrocodone, but as yet have plenty of the hydrocodone with tylenol. He also said that the higher strength is getting a bit limited,10/325 which is the strength I take, but the 5/325, 7/325 and lesser dosages, they have plenty of. I used to take the 5/325, but in a bad flare my doc wrote me a script for the higher dose of 10/325 and has just kept me there. I think it would not be too much of a problem to go down in dosage...hope, hope, hope! So there really may be a problem with some types, just as a few of you that work in the pharmacy said. I would be in a terrible bunch of pain if they took it away from me. That is about the only way I can get anything done around my house and not be in killer pain. I agree with everyone here-it is no one's business what you take and why. I have been on oxycontin for about 6 years-I have FM, DDD, Lupus and breast cancer (in remission). I take several different meds, one of them being oxy. I would not be able to function without these meds. Some people think I am an addict-they should just walk a day in our shoes-then they might have a glimpse of what our everyday life is about. No one has a right to question the manner in which our Dr. treats us. It just makes me so mad!

I think she is just like a lot of other techs I have run across. They take it as their personal war to hassle "drug users". People who take a lot of pain meds are always drug addicts and they treat them like dirt.
Find another pharmacy or when she starts in, just tell her that you work closely with your dr. and he knows what you take and her job is to fill the script. She isn't a dr and if she really has questions or concerns feel free to call your dr and let him set her straight!
She is an idiot and a nosy one at that!

It is a pharmacist's responsibility to know that you are taking your medications safely. No, a pharmacist (or tech) would not violate HIPAA by asking you what you are taking your medication for. Sometimes it is part of knowing what the right dose is for your condition. The RPh also needs to know about all of your other medications to determine drug interactions. Don't misunderstand me, I'm not defending the tech's rude behavior toward you. It clearly should have been asked in a more professional way.

Word up about the Toprol XL.

No judging, just my experience.....my pharmacist was very knowledgable about drugs. He knew more about the side effects etc than all of my doctors..My doctors assured me that "the risk is not greater than the benefits, USUALLY". The pharmacist went over all side effects and I decided the meds were not for me..
Perhaps she had some personal experience with your meds that caused her to say what she said.
I take ALL advice with a grain of salt...and then do some research myself.

I haven't read ALL the posts but..why is it getting hard to get? I had my pharmacist tell me the same thing..???
